Walmart Breaks Ground on New Sacramento Supercenter in Delta Shores Development, Bringing 300 New Jobs to Region by Summer 2017 187,000 sq. ft., full-service store to serve as anchor tenant of new development, providing easier access to healthy and affordable foods while keeping city sales tax dollars local;

Ceremony also unveiled new refrigerated truck for River City Food Bank, purchased through an $85,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Oct. 31, 2016) – Walmart conducted a groundbreaking ceremony last week on the site of its newest supercenter at the Delta Shores development in south Sacramento. The 187,000-sq. ft. store, now under construction at the intersection of I-5 and Cosumnes River Blvd., will employ 300 associates when it opens in the summer of 2017. The store will feature a full line of groceries with fresh fruits and vegetables, meats dairy, a bakery and a deli, as well as wide variety of general merchandise, including electronics, apparel, a tire and lube express, an outdoor garden center and a pharmacy.

Several elected officials and local dignitaries participated in the groundbreaking ceremony, including Sacramento Vice Mayor, Rick Jennings; Sacramento City Manager, John Shirley; Region Business CEO, Josh Wood; Sacramento Commissioner, Cornelious Burke; and Chief of Staff for Supervisor Schenirer, Joe Devlin.

“The groundbreaking of a Walmart Supercenter is always an exciting occasion and we’re delighted to begin construction on this new store in the city of Sacramento,” said Chester Gray, Walmart Regional General Manager. “We couldn’t be more proud to serve as the anchor tenant in the new Delta Shores retail and residential development. Not only are we bringing hundreds of new jobs to south Sacramento, but we’ll make access to healthy and affordable foods easily accessible for people living and working in the area – all in an effort to bring one- stop shopping closer to home.”

Delta Shores is an 800-acre, mixed-use development which will feature a mix of residential units with retail, restaurant and entertainment opportunities. Located south of the Pocket and Meadowview neighborhoods off I-5 at Cosumnes River Blvd, Delta Shores will offer access to nearby public transport links and will become a hub for shopping and entertainment for people throughout the region.

“I am pleased to welcome this significant milestone in the development of Sacramento’s first Walmart supercenter and for the Delta Shores development as a whole,” said Sacramento Vice Mayor Rick Jennings. “This is a project we’ve been working on for many years, in coordination with the community, and we look forward to the new jobs, sales tax revenues and shopping opportunities that will be coming to District 7 and throughout the city.” River City Food Bank In addition to the groundbreaking ceremony, the River City Food Bank unveiled its new refrigerated truck, made possible through an $85,000 grant from the Walmart Foundation. “River City Food Bank knows that our families crave and thrive on fresh fruits and vegetables, but accessing them and making sure they are kept cool to preserve the quality has been a challenge for us,” said Eileen Thomas, executive director of River City Food Bank. “Thanks to a generous grant from the Walmart Foundation, our new refrigerated truck enables us to access and refrigerate a great quantity of these nutritional fruits and vegetables for the more than 5,500 hungry people who come to us each month.”
