The program requires students to go above and beyond the normal way of learning; it requires them to do hands-on business and to experience the real world. As a whole, the CEO program was founded in Effingham, IL ,in 2009 by Craig Lindval. There are currently 39 CEO programs active throughout the Central United States. Macoupin County is now in its second year of operation. The student selection process is very similar to applying for college. The students must submit a completed application to their guidance counselor. She says, “My favorite thing about basketball is playing with a team ! that eventually becomes family.” Hailey gets ready for the season by focusing and practicing hard. Hailey says, “Currently we have not received uniforms yet but I like the number 23 because I have worn that number since the fifth grade and my cousin Jake Odorizzi wears number 23 for the Tampa Bay Rays.” Brigitte Long, a sophomore on the team, says, “I feel like the co-op is a good opportunity to go and meet new people and learn a different style of play.” Brigitte’s goals for this season are to become a better player, win games, and learn to work with her teammates. She is excited for this season because she loves playing basketball and getting better. Brigitte says, “To get ready for the season I go outside and work on shooting and post moves.” Brigitte says that she is most concerned about how the team will get along. She says, “After losing a game I stay motivated by looking at the positives things we did as a team and working to get better.” Abby Davis, a sophomore on the team, says, “I think the co-op is different but could be better for the team. It lets us get to know and play with new people, I think it could be good.” Abby is excited for this season and her favorite thing is playing in the games and shooting three pointers. Abby gets ready for the season by shooting a lot and by going to the gym. Abby says, “I am most concerned that there will be tension between the two towns not being able to play well together.” One of Abby’s goals for this season is to learn to work together as a team and win more games than last year. Abby says, “My number is normally 22. The reason I picked this number is because in One Tree Hill it is Lucas Scott’s jersey number.” Lauren Mathis, a sophomore on the team, says, “I feel that the co-op is good. We can make a great team.” She says that she is most concerned about getting to know everyone they are co-oping with. After losing a game Lauren thinks positively and practices hard for the next game. She normally plays center. Lauren says that she mentally prepares for the season. She says, “I am excited for this season because we have new people and can hopefully do better than previous years.” Some of Lauren’s goals for this season are to work together as a team and to win as many games as they can. Nick DeVries, Zach Tooley, and Roger Conlee are all seniors on the team this year. All three of them have been playing pretty much their whole lives.
