As productive as an 8 m2 photovoltaic array

Anyone who compares energy-saving methods quickly realizes that the options are endless and the performance is confusing. Photovoltaic installations have emerged on the market, helped along by government support. Their savings benefits are often taken as a benchmark against which to compare the performance of other products.

Joulia-Inline introduces a new energy-saving product to the market. An unobtrusive product that does not require an electrical connection, it can nonetheless recover valuable energy and save many kilowatt-hours. Joulia-Inline is the name of a simple solution that provides for energy-efficient showers without reducing the user’s level of comfort. A heat exchanger in the shower drain channel extracts the energy of the warm shower water and heats the pipes that carry the fresh cold water. As a result, the cold water reaches the mixing valve at 25°C instead of the normal 10°C. Then, much less of the energy- intensive hot water must be mixed in to achieve the desired shower temperature.

Within the span of a year, the Joulia-Inline offers a 4-person household about as much energy savings as an 8 m2 photovoltaic array.

Joulia-Inline is available in models with 3-tube or 5-tube heat exchangers.

The following examples show how effective the Joulia-Inline shower drain is. If the shower drain is used with the 5-tube module in a shower with 12 liter per minute shower head, the performance of the heat exchanger can be up to 6000 W. This means an annual yield of approximately 1,000 kWh, and this figure is completely independent of the weather conditions.

In winter, because photovoltaic panels are buried in snow and cold water is even colder when it comes into the house, the Joulia-Inline heat recovery is even more efficient.

For all these reasons, the price premium is amortized within 2-5 years after acquisition.

The value proposition appears even better in situations where many people regularly shower, such as sport centers, hospitals, hotels or swimming pools.
