In Celebration of Trees at Whitnall Park A Tree-Mendous Family Event

(Milwaukee, WI) – Looking for a free family adventure, a new tree for your yard, or a pleasant day in the park? All this, and more, is in store for visitors at “In Celebration of Trees” at Whitnall Park, Saturday, April 19th from 10am to 4pm and Sunday, April 20th from noon to 4pm. A combination of Earth Day and Arbor Day, this event offers guided nature hikes, family activities, adult education presentations, demonstrations, displays and information booths.

While supplies last, free native shrubs will be available, one may plant an acorn or discover one’s carbon footprint and even ride the energy cycle. Ceremonial tree plantings will be held throughout the weekend, along with presentations and demonstrations on tree selection, planting and maintenance. Experts will teach how to identify Emerald Ash Borer as well as suggest alternate trees to plant. Trained staff and volunteers will lead guided nature hikes between Boerner Botanical Gardens and Wehr Nature Center. A free shuttle between the sites will also be running.

In Celebration of Trees combines the efforts and resources of Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens, Friends of Wehr Nature Center, Milwaukee County Parks, University of Wisconsin- Extension and Master Gardener Volunteers. An Urban Forestry Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to the Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens largely underwrites the event. For this weekend, there is a special, reduced fee of $1 per person for combined admission to Botanical Gardens and Wehr Nature Center. For event details go to www.boernerbotanicalgardens.org or call (414) 525-5601. ###
