Imperialism Debate The US is debating becoming an Imperialist nation. The senate is meeting to debate the issue. You are part of different factions either in support for or against becoming an imperialist nation.

Using your text book and the imperialist readings: 4 Teams in support of imperialism will be researching and arguing for the benefits of imperialism based on its impact/benefits of the following things: 1. Morality

2. Politics

3. Militaristic

4. Economic

4 Teams against imperialism will be researching and arguing for the drawbacks of imperialism based on its impact/drawbacks of the following things: 1. Morality

2. Politics

3. Militaristic

4. Economic

Roles: Each team member has a specific role to play. You need to choose one person to deliver the argument and one person to deliver the rebuttal. The jurors need to decide who will be the jury foreperson. This person will organize the jurors during deliberation and deliver the verdict.

Paper:

Speakers: As a team you must complete a typed right up of your argument that follows the structure of the rhetorical framework. In your argument and your debate you must use specific evidence or facts that you find from the imperialist readings and the textbook (these need to be cited correctly).

Jurors: Will complete a typed right up of their research of imperialism comparing and contrasting the ideas behind the pro imperialism and anti imperialism movement. In your paper you must use specific evidence or facts that you find from the imperialist readings and the textbook (these need to be cited).

Format of Debate: 1. Each Speaker will stand a give a 5 minute speech presenting their argument for or against imperialism. When your opponent stands to speak the person you have chosen to deliver your rebuttal should take notes on what your opponent says to use in their rebuttal

2. Once everyone has spoken the teams will have 5 minutes to formulate their rebuttal

3. Now the person you have chosen to deliver the rebuttal will stand and have 5 minutes for rebuttal. A rebuttal will address the arguments presented by their counterpart using their notes. 4. After the rebuttal each team will have two minutes to deliver their closing arguments. The closing will reiterate why the US should or should not become an imperialist nation.

5. The Jury will then have 10 minutes to deliberate.
