1. Implement computer assisted instructional program in ELA and Math for students in grades K-5 in the Computer Lab. 1 Technology Coach @ 1.0 FTE will provide assistance to students on using technology to enhance learning of SC standards through CAI software, websites, activities and will also work with faculty providing model lessons, technology resources to support the curriculum, provide training on new technology to support the classroom. Supplies may include computers and computer tables for supplemental lab, consumable printer supplies, supplimental software and books, web- based subscriptions such as Espresso or BrainPop, or other supplemental supplies such as digital cameras, MP3, etc.
2. Provide instructional materials in ELA to support the Balanced Literacy program and ELA/Math Standards in grades K-5. Expenditures may classroom leveled-text libraries, laminating supplies, include paper, instructional materials to support writing program, student word banks, sentence strips, classroom libraries for self-selected reading, teacher resources, number boards, pocket charts, dice, number line sets, place value blocks, etc.
3. Provide 15 Teachers @ 1.0 FTE and 5 Paraprofessionals @ 1.0 FTE to provide extended (before & after) day programs in Reading and Math for students in grades K-5. Program operates 2 days per week 2 hour per day in the afternoon.
4. Implement Reading Recovery with 2 Teachers @ 1.0 FTE to provide one-on-one reading instruction for first grade students at risk.
5. Employ 1 Teacher @ 1.0 FTE as an instructional coach to conduct professional development for teachers in core subject area, use of assessment and data, and instructional strategies including follow-up, teach model lessons, observe lessons, provide feedback to teachers, insure vertical alignment between gradelevel curriculum, and ensure curriculum alignment with South Carolina standards in grades K-5. Supplies include general office supplies such as paper, printer cartridges, staples, etc. and materials to conduct professional development, model lessons, and teacher small group/make-and- take sessions such as post-it note sheets, read-aloud books, labels, markers, file folder or manipulateves for making an activity or game.
6. Designated staff will attend effective practices conferences and workshops designed to improve student achievement and performance on state assessments. Examples of training include High Quality Literacy Classrooms (Jennifer Young), Furman Consortium workshops, Reading Conference, Math Conference, and other local/regional/state workshops. Expenditures may include travel, lodging, meals,registration and consultant fees and travel related expenses. Expenditures will also include stipends/benefits for teachers to attend professional development off contract days.
7. Employ 1 Teacher @ 1.0 FTE as a Title I facilitator to coordinate school improvement efforts to ensure effective staff development, compliance concerns, and Title I assurances in grades K-5. Additionally, this person will provide support in student behavior intervention, new teacher mentoring/observation, and other support services to ensure compliance with all Title I reform strategies.
8. Create, print or copy, and distribute parent-school communications, such as newsletters and brochures for grades K-5. Expenditures may include: student handbooks, communication folders, school summary reports, monthly calendards, testing information, PTSO announcements,etc.
9. Continue to meet about the planning, updating, and implementation of the Title I program in an effort to improve academic performance for all students in grades K-5. Title I meeting is open to the entire school population. We have had as many as 40 people attend the title one meeting/planning meeting each year. We specifically invite the PTO board, School Improvement Council and any business partners that are available to come.
10. Provide instructional supplies and materials for themed parent night activities, such as Math Night, Science Exploration, Reading Night, etc. to involve/inform parents on grade- level standards. Expenditures may include consumable materials used during make-and- take math or reading activities, refreshments for parent night, and other supplies to carryout parent night themes such as read-aloud books and math manipulatives. Provide stipend/benefits for teachers to work afterhours to prepare/carryout parent night activities.
11. Employ 1 Teacher @ 1.0 FTE as Academic Integration Specialist to provide additional academic instruction and Math/Science integration in small groups in grades K-5 and assistance to students and teachers in the SECME lab setting.
