Meeting Minutes for May 2012

Attendees: Debbie Beck, Theresa DeGrace, Heidi Foley, Pam McSweeney, Kim Ober, Kate Roberts, Lisa Sackmaster

1. Call to order: Meeting called to order and opening prayer led by Theresa DeGrace.

2. Secretary’s report (Kate Roberts): April minutes approved via email, and have been posted to AHA Community Association web page.

3. Chair report (Theresa DeGrace):

 2012 Mother-Son/Father-Daughter dance survey results reviewed. Survey results are available on request; next year’s chairs will receive copies.

 Voting took place for the Community Association staff award.

 StarFest was a tremendous success this year. As reported at the April meeting, net income of $230,000 from StarFest is forecast for this year. There was an increase in attendance, silent and live auctions, and presales from last year.

 We plan to test a new policy of limiting event chair terms to two years, with a third year used to train in a successor.

4. Communications report (Lisa Sackmaster): Postings soliciting volunteer help have been successful. They will run in Star Connections for the next two weeks.

5. Treasurer’s report (Kim Ober):

 All deposits for Mother-Son/Father-Daughter dance have been finalized; these events showed a profit of $800.

 We have $900 in outstanding expenditures for this school year.

 2012-13 proposed budget was reviewed.

6. Administrative representative’s report: (Heidi Foley):

 Graduation planning is in full swing.  Two English teachers have been hired; interviews are ongoing for Winte rposition. Interviews are upcoming to replace Beth Reyfuss (Science) who has resigned.  Writing a report on learning in early years of laptop use at AHA.  Carla Kilkelly and Jason Hall and Lee Jones are experimenting with flipped curricula.  Working to get more of a summer school off the ground. Have been doing remedial courses; will add enrichment (fiction course) and intensive study (Spanish and Math) for this summer. About nine courses will be offered this summer; all are open to non-AHA students.

7. Volunteer coordinator’s report (Pam McSweeney):

 All current event chairs are returning. We are seeking a few more volunteers for early Fall 2012 events, particularly Freshman picture day.  A survey will be circulated to current volunteers; we are seeking suggestions for improvement.
