“Big ideas” within the book of Isaiah:

 God can be trusted, He has a plan.  Isaiah laments over the behavior and attitudes of Judah (5:1-7)  Isaiah undergoes a ‘transformation’ (6:1ff) o Seeing God’s glory, he understands that the nation must have either forgiveness (6:6,7) or judgment (6:5; 9-11)  The ‘suffering servant’ will take the judgment and provide our forgiveness (53)

Jeremiah: The weeping prophet

Chapter 1: Prologue, Jeremiah’s call. Chapters 2-20: Judgment against Judah (Josiah to Nebuchadenezzar) Chapters 21-45: Judgment against Judah (Josiah’s sons to the captivity) Chapters 46-51: Judgment against the nations. Chapter 52: The Fall of Jerusalem.

“Big Ideas within the book of Jeremiah:

o Jeremiah is more ‘pastoral’ at times than he is ‘prophetic’ in his approach. o Throughout the prophecies judging the people, Jeremiah communicates the Gospel – the message of God’s New Covenant that will forgive our sins. o “Old Covenant vs. New Covenant” primary difference is in ‘strategy,’ because both were based on faith, not on works.
