Fernando Mederos, Ed.D.

Fernando Mederos, Ed.D., was appointed Director of Fatherhood Engagement at the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families in May 2006. His core mission is to maximize engagement with fathers whose families are involved with the child welfare system, and promote holistic, culturally-based and safety-oriented practice with fathers by child welfare workers. He believes that in our different cultures we all have good examples and models for respectful and loving relationships and that if we identify those models and use them in our change and healing process, we end up moving toward something that we identify with and love.

He is a practitioner (consultant, writer and trainer) on issues of fatherhood and domestic violence. He has consulted with the U.S. Department of Justice (OVW), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and organizations funded by OVW to provide technical assistance to federal grantees. He is co- Chair of the Board of National Latino Alliance for the Elimination of Domestic Violence (Alianza).

He is co-author with Etiony Aldarondo of Programs for Men Who Batter: Intervention and Prevention Strategies in a Diverse Society (2002, Kingston, New Jersey: Civic Research Institute).
