Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians

Good Afternoon Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back to another fantastic year at Eastlake! I am your child’s English II teacher, Mrs. Hamilton. In my class, we will need the following items:

 1 Composition Notebook – which will need to be decorated as a collage by your child

 A 5-Subject notebook – this will be your child’s Interactive Student Notebook

 Pens and Highlighters

Pre-AP students will need the same items as above, as well as these five novels for their readings:

1.) Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury

2.) Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë

3.) Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison

4.) 1984 by George Orwell

5.) Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare*

These supplies are due by ______

Grading Policy and Make-Up Work

There will be on average 15 daily assignments, 3 Tests & Quizzes and 1 Final Exam with the inclusion of 1 Project. Students will have the opportunity to make-up their daily assignments for only four days after the absence, losing 5 points for each day. By the fifth day, the grade will remain a 0. Tests can only be made up after 2 days of the absence.

Rules and Regulations

With the composition book, students will be freewriting (writing about anything on their mind to clear their heads) every day at the beginning of class for two minutes. Although the student can write about any topic they prefer, they need to understand that it will be read by myself. If a student cannot come up with a topic to write about, one will be provided. Writing must not be inappropriate with conduct or language, nor talk about staff, classmates or teachers. They must be silent during the two minutes of writing or they will receive a 0 for the entry. Failure to abide by these rules will result in appropriate punishment such as point deduction, referral or even SAC time. Cell phones are allowed for only music and research when I give permission – Texting is never prohibited, nor recording or taking pictures of self or classmates. If this happens, the phone will be taken down to the office for parental retrieval.

In the classroom, students will be expected to be:

 Respectful to self and others – meaning no vulgar language or conduct

 Be ready always with supplies and materials

 Follow Dress Code

 Be on time to class

Again, failure to abide by these rules will result in appropriate punishment from Detention during lunch for 10 minutes, Referrals, and SAC time. Please sign and date that you are aware of the standards in the classroom and I look forward to a great year with you!
