Sphere of activities The Centre is elaborating theory of social studies and methodology of its practical application for social policy formation and for solution of present-day Russian society's social development problems. Russia's social development problems are studied here with regard to comparative analysis of world experience, particularly, that of the Central, East European countries and the CIS states.

Field of research Studies in theoretical issues of social development and social policy: · the problems of forming a new model of Russia's social policy, the development of social sphere during transition and the destiny of the Soviet social politics model; · the role of state in solving present-day social problems, the interrelationship of traditional social partners: state, employers and employees; · globalization and social politics; · the perspectives of private sector and NGOs in the social sphere; · the mechanisms of defining the social development priorities. In its research, the Centre analyzes Russia's social reforms, perspectives and outcome of implementing programs in separate social sphere sectors, including: · the population's living standard and the households behavior, incomes policy; · labour relations in transition period, the formation of effective employment structures, fight against unemployment; · poverty and social inclusion/ disclusion problems; · socio-economic problems related to migration of population and labor resources; · Health care as an integral part of state social policy; · pension reform: its opportunities and perspectives.
