Credit by Examination

2015-2016 Credit by Examination

Credit by examination will be granted to a student, when applicable to the degree program in which a student is enrolled. Such credit is substituted for specific courses through appropriate scores on a Challenge Examination or CLEP Information Systems exam. A maximum of 30 semester hours of credit may be earned in this way. Semester hours of credit earned by examination are treated as transfer credit and assigned a “T” grade. No quality points are earned. The student’s cumulative grade point average is not affected.

I. Challenge Examinations:

Students who have significant, relevant work experience may also satisfy certain course requirements through departmental testing programs. Challenge Exams are available to students who believe they have acquired, through employment and/or independent study, the knowledge and skill that is equivalent to a Bryant University catalog course.

To sit for a “challenge examination” a student must apply through the appropriate department chair and pay the associated fees. Fees are 2/3 of the part time tuition rate. For this year it is $1954.00. An application can be obtained from Undergraduate Advising.

II. CLEP Information Systems exam:

College credit through examination is possible in some subject areas. The amount and type of credit awarded is at the discretion of the designated institution. Bryant University accepts credits for the following exams, (maximum of four only), if the appropriate score is achieved.
