How Many Grains of Rice Are in a 10 Kg Bag?

How many grains of rice are in a 10 kg bag?

Step 1 – Estimation: My estimation is that there are 500,000 grains of rice in a 10kg bag. To get to this answer I researched how many grains of rice there were in one gram. I found out that there were 50 grains of rice in one gram. I then multiplied 50 by 10,000 as there are 10,000 grams in 10kg.

I do not think that my estimation is very accurate. This is because I have not chosen a specific grain of rice to work with. Also in my estimation, I have only used one source to research my information. Another reason why my estimation is not accurate is that if the original estimate for the one gram, was inaccurate by even just one grain, it would alter my final answer by least 1,000 grains. Step 2 – Plans of Improving to be more accurate: To make my answer to this problem more accurate I will:

 Choose one type of rice to answer the problem with

 Solve the problem using different types of resources, as the answers may vary ex. Internet, books  Try to get a the accurate number of rice for a larger weight or volume as it will make my estimation for 10kg more accurate Step 3 – Working Towards My New Answer:

To work out my answer I am using raw White Long Grain Rice. The resources I will be using to solve this problem are the internet and my kitchen scales. Information Gathering: Kitchen Scales – 1 cup of raw Long Grain White Rice = 150g Internet – There are approximately 7,000 grains of rice in one uncooked cup of long grain rice 1 cup raw White Long Grain Rice = 150g Working Out:

1000g (1kg) ÷ 150g (1 cup rice) = 6.67 (cups of rice in 1kg)

7,000 (grains rice in 1 cup) x 6 (cups) = 42,000 (grains rice in 6 cups/900g)

150g (1 cup of rice) x 6 (cups) = 900g (rice in 6 cups)

1000g (1kg) – 900g (rice in 6 cups) = 100g (2/3 cup of rice)

7,000 (grains rice in 1 cup) ÷ 3 = 2,333 (1/3 cup of rice)

2,333 (1/3 cup of rice) x 2 = 4,666 (grains of rice in 100g) 42,000 (grains of rice in 900g) + 4,666 (grains of rice in 100g) = 46,666 (grains of rice in 1kg)

46,666 (grains of rice in 1kg) x 10 = 466,660 (grains of rice in 10kg) My solution is that there are 466,660 grains of raw White Long Grain Rice in a 10kg bag.
