JOB TITLE: Social Worker

QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Master's degree in Social Work from a social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. 2. Licensure by the Alabama State Board of Social Work Examiners. 3. Minimum of three years' successful professional social work experience in child welfare and adolescents preferred. 4. Experience in an educational environment preferred. 5. Good interpersonal skills. 6. Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner. 7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Student Services Coordinator

JOB GOALS: To empower students, families, and school personnel to access available opportunities and resources that develop each student’s potential.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Furnish leadership and assist with the formulation of a desirable educational program for the students of Shelby County.

2. Provide support, referral, and follow-up services for targeted students.

3. Assist personnel in Student Services, Special Education, Title I, and other programs to establish and implement a plan of action for at-risk students.

4. Assist schools, school nurses, and families in obtaining social and/or health services for children.

5. Work with the Department of Human Resources, Juvenile Court, and other agencies in the development and implementation of family intervention.

6. Conduct home visits as a liaison between school and home.

7. Assist school officials, teachers, and parents with developing a plan of action for students who are at-risk of dropping out of school and/or having attendance and behavior problems.

8. Serve as an advisor to administrators, counselors, and teachers concerning assigned program of intervention. Social Worker rev10/16/08 Page 2 of 2

9. Be regular and punctual in attendance.

10. Perform other duties that might be reasonably assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month contract (240 days). Exempt employee. Salary based on the appropriate Teacher schedule at the appropriate step and rank for contract.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of established Board policies and procedures.

SALARY: $53,344.80 - $78,852.00 Annual
