Syllabus

Class Rules 1. Students will abide by the rules and regulations as set forth in Lancer Life, and therefore in accordance with the expectations of the school. 2. Students must live by the Golden Rule that states: Do unto others as you would have done unto you. This means that the utmost respect for others and oneself is expected at all times. 3. Students are expected to be in their seats and ready to begin immediately as the tardy bell rings, and must remain in their seats at all times (unless given permission otherwise). 4. Students must raise their hands to be given permission to speak. 5. Students must not touch anything on the teacher’s desk without permission. 6. Students are responsible for any make-up work when they are absent (this includes any missed assignments, notes, or classroom instruction). 7. At the end of each period, students may not leave until dismissed by the teacher. 8. Students are encouraged to have an open mind, a great attitude, and a winning smile. Never be afraid to ask a question. Classroom Expectations 1. Students must always come prepared to class with the following materials: 2 sharpened pencils with erasers 2 black pens 2 blue pens 2 red ink pens 1 yellow highlighter 1 three-ring binder (1-2 inches wide) with dividers Loose-leaf notebook paper (college ruled) 1 spiral notebook Appropriate English textbooks/novels At least 1 folder (for in-class handouts) Students will not be allowed to borrow any of these materials from other students.

2. No food will be allowed in the classroom under any circumstances. Food, drinks, candy, gum, or anything remotely close to this, if brought into the classroom, will merit the possessor a $2.00 fine (as outlined in Lancer Life). 3. Students are not allowed to leave the classroom at any time and are therefore expected to use the restroom at break and lunch (rare exceptions will be allowed). 4. Detentions may be given to any student who is purposefully disruptive, purposefully disrespectful, and/or who chooses not to follow the rules and regulations set forth by the teacher, or the Lancer Life. Detentions may be up to 1 hour in length and will be held immediately after school on a day that will be determined. Grading Policies Homework: Students are to be prepared to complete daily homework assignments that will be posted on the board in the classroom and online. It is the student’s responsibility to complete all of their work in a timely manner and with integrity. Late assignments will not be accepted. In the case of excused absences, the student has as many days as were excused absent to complete the missing assignments. It is the student’s sole responsibility to attain missing assignments, notes, and instructions. *Be mindful of extra-curricular activities and plan accordingly. Tests and Quizzes: Make-up quizzes will not be given. If the student is absent the day of a test, it is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with the teacher in order to make up the test. The test must be made up during the next class meeting after the student returns to class.

Grading: Tests 20% Quizzes 10% Composition 30% Homework/Class work/Participation 20% Mid-Term and Final 20%

The universal letter grade breakdown is as follows: A = 95-100 C = 75-79 A- = 90-94 C- = 70-74 B = 85-89 D = 61-69 B- = 80-84 F = 60 and below *Timed Writes will be graded according to a separate AP rubric that will be handed out at the beginning of class.
