2016 ENTRY FORM: BEST JOURNALIST

Awarded to the magazine feature writer or freelance writer who excels in producing articles that have impact, are thoughtful and inspire the magazine’s readers. (This award can be entered by one journalist using examples from several titles; or by the publisher of one title with multiple articles from one journalist. Journalists entering on their own behalf may submit work from a range of publishers, however the stories must all fit the same category. Editors are eligible for this award but editorials are not.)

ENTRY RULES & INFORMATION

1. NO HANDWRITTEN ENTRIES. Answers must be typed directly into this form. 2. KEEP TO WORD COUNT. Entries must not exceed the maximum number of words specified in each section. Please enter word count where specified. 3. ALL JUDGES ARE UNDER STRICT CONFIDENTIALITY RULES. All judges have signed a confidentiality agreement. Any judges with a conflict of interest will be required to withdraw from judging relevant entries. 4. DO NOT INCLUDE PAYMENT WITH THIS ENTRY. Your publisher must complete and send the entry summary form, including payment information, to the MPA. Visit www.mpa.org.nz to access this form. Q1. Tell us about your writing (500 words or less). Judges are looking for insights into:

 The core target audience of the magazine

 Your journalistic approach to working with magazine teams

 How you align your approach with the brand you are working for

 How your stories demonstrate knowledge of the target audience

 Evidence (including the editor testimonial) that your work enhances audience engagement

 How you got the story and what your verification process was

 The story-telling technique you have used and why

 Why these articles represent your best work

Judges will use the following weightings to determine the successful entry:

 Craft (50%)

 Reporting and research (25%)

 Evidence of engagement with the core target (25%)
