Foundation Centre Newsletter Spring Term 2015

Dear Parents and Carers, Here is some information about the coming term in the Foundation Centre. Our topic is ‘Nursery Rhymes ‘ for this half term and then ‘Growth ‘ for the next half term. Talking Tots Nursery children will continue to have extra speaking and listening sessions with Julie from ’Talking Tots’ on a Friday. Big Talk Homework In order to develop and encourage children’s language skills we will be sending home ‘Big Talk ‘ homework for children to do at home with you. The subjects will be sent home on a Monday and the children will then be asked to discuss what they have talked about on the following Friday in school. The subjects will be fairly informal and we suggest you make use of mealtimes, bath times or journeys to and from school to get involved in these discussions. The first subject, for the week beginning 19th January 2015 will be ‘Your favourite nursery rhyme and why.’ Happy chatting!

Reading Books and Book Bags Please make sure that your child has their book bag with them each day. All children need a bag in school so that they can pack away their own letters, pictures and belongings to take home at the end of the day. Reception class children need a bag for their belongings and to keep their reading book in good order. Staff can only write comments in the yellow reading record books if they are in school. Don’t forget that you can change your child’s reading book more frequently by putting it in the basket in their classroom.

Bug Club has changed Every child in Reception has their own log on to access our Bug Club Reading Scheme online. By logging on you should now be redirected to the new site ’Active Learning.’ This is an excellent resource for children to practise their reading skills. If you have lost or forgotten your password, please ask a member of staff who can give it to you again.

Spare Clothes If we need to change your child for any reason in school please can any spare clothes be washed and returned as soon as possible. Also, if you have any clothes/underwear/uniform that you no longer need, we would be very grateful for them.

Parent Conference Week There will be another opportunity for you to discuss your child’s development and learning this term. A date for appointments will be made shortly.

Thank you for your continued support, Foundation Centre staff
