PRESS RELEASE
04 February 2008
Cinema helps ‘Friends’ help Cathedral The clock is ticking for the Friends of Truro Cathedral to sell 240 cinema tickets before a special charity screening of the recent blockbuster movie ‘Amazing Grace’.
The Friends have secured the largest screen at the Truro Plaza Cinema at 8pm on the 26th February for the special charity screening of the film ‘Amazing Grace’ starring Ioan Gruffudd, Albert Finney, Michael Gambon and Rufus Sewell. This unusual opportunity has arisen thanks to the generosity of Mr David Williams, Director of WTW Cinemas who has donated the use of the cinema free of charge. Further generosity has been shown by Momentum Pictures, the UK’s leading independent film distributor, who have also very kindly waived any fees. The movie tells the story of William Wilberforce and his lifelong struggle to get slavery and slave trading abolished. The film which received much critical acclaim when it was released in the UK is an old fashioned movie epic that dazzles the eye, touches the heart, and stirs the soul. It is elegantly crafted and superbly well-acted by a predominantly English cast. Roberta Evans who has helped organise the screening of the film said, “The Friends of Truro Cathedral have run a range of different fundraising activities on behalf of the Cathedral that in the past has included boat trips, slide shows, garden parties, etc but we’ve never done anything like this before. It’s a bit of a gamble but we just want to make the most of this generous opportunity. We hope people will respond. It’ll be a great night out to watch a fantastic film in a superb cinema.” Tickets for the showing on the 26th February at 8pm are £10, which includes refreshments and wine, and are available from Roberta Evans, 01872 271330.
