HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL CAPANA MEMBERS!!

I hope you all had a wonderful and blessed holiday season! But if you’re like me, you’re glad all the hustle and bustle is over and we can now focus on our plans and goals for this 2017 year.

I want to update all of you on CAPANA’s plans and goals for this year:

Monthly meetings: Social at 6:00pm and Speaker at 6:30pm February 15th at Westchester Hospital. “Decreasing Opiod Sedation on Discharge from Pacu and Postoperative Care of the Bariatric Patient with Sleep Apnea” Heather Waugh, BSN, RN, CPAN, and Terry Cummings, BSN, RN

March 15th at The Christ Hospital, “Bladder Interstim” Brian Blazer

April 19th at Mercy West Hospital, Speaker Ann McInally-Price

NDASH (Nurses Day at the State House) is March 22nd. OPANA is a sponsor so members who register to attend get a discounted rate. Let me know if you are interested in attending and I’ll get you further details. I’m sure there is a deadline to register.

KSPAN (Kentucky Society of Perianesthesia Nurses) is sponsoring a PANAW activity and have very generously invited CAPANA members, February 9th Dinner and a speaker, Terry Foster, RN. He is an awesome speaker and very funny! The event is free. A flyer with details is attached.

CAPANA is hosting this year’s OPANA SPRING WORKSHOP!!! This is a great honor and should be very interesting! The Workshop Committee has lined up great speakers. The date is May 20th at Bethesda North Hospital. Flyers and registration should be out soon.

If you are interested in helping the committee and/or being on the committee, please let me know. We are having a planning meeting, Tuesday January 17th at 5:30pm at the Rusty Bucket, Rookwood if you would like to attend. If you can’t commit the being on the committee, we also will need help the day of the event so let me know. We also need door prizes and Raffle items. Consider getting promotional items from your hospital to donate, please. Of course, the ASPAN NATIONAL CONVENTION IS APRIL 30TH TO MAY 4TH. You should have received information from ASPAN. This a great event for education and networking. You all should considering attending.

CAPANA’s Goals this year:

We have obtained a not-for-profit status with a tax exempt #. This was a huge endeavor for our treasurer, Sue Tiemeier. Thank you very much

The board is also updating our bylaws and policies, another huge endeavor.

The Awards committee is accepting nominations for the LEGACY AWARD. Nominate a deserving person you know.

Lastly, I want to encourage all of you to be more involved in your organization. We are only as good as participation of our members.

There will be elections this spring for positions on the board. I hope that you will consider being more involved in your organization. We need new involvement to keep us active and to provide the educational offerings to our members.

Debby Niehaus is our Nominations chairperson and she would love to hear from you.

Finally, utilize the OPANA website for information OHIOPANA.ORG

Please don’t hesitate to call me with any questions or suggestions!

Thanks and looking forward to a rewarding 2017!

Sharon Gallagher, RN, CAPA
