COURSE CATALOG OVERVIEW Course Catalog – a course must be setup in the Course Catalog before it can be scheduled as a class section.  Effective Date – related to the begin date of the term the course should be available for scheduling.  Course Roll - changes made to the Course Catalog, such as title, credit hours, subject and catalog number can be rolled to the next schedule, eliminating the need to delete sections and add new ones. Catalog Data page – same regardless of the offering  Course ID – The same course, taught on different campuses will have the same course ID if it: . is used the same way in Enrollment Requirements / Course Edits . meets the same Requirement Designation / General Studies area . is used the same way in meeting degree requirements . shares the same title . shares the same repeat rules.  Topic ID – Listing of all special topic titles that can be offered. Must be listed here to be offered in the class schedule.  Offereings page – each campus has its own offering number o 1 = Tempe, 2 = West, 3 = Poly, 4 = Downtown o These values can be the same for all offerings or different for each offering: . Subject and Catlog number . Academic Org ownhserip – contgrols security access to classes in schedule . Enrollment Requirement Group / course Edits  Components page – Defined the vario0us ways this course can be taught , such as lab, lecture, discussion, etc.  The component must be defined on this page in the Course Catalog to selecti it when usetting up a class section.n. o Once component bmust bhe the enrollement component o The other components are called “related components” and can be setu p as required, or are optionaql.. SCHEDULE OF CLASSES OV ERVIEW Terminology  Class Number – this is similar to our current Schedule Line Number. Auto-assigned based on the order the class is added to the schedule. First digigt indicate sthe semester. When the schedule rolls from one term to another, the Class Number will change.  Class Section - identifies individual sections of the same course offering number. When the schedule rolls from one term to another, the Calass Section number does not change.  Class Association – this number is different for every Class Sexction UNLESS the sections are related.  Related Class Sections – if a class has both a lab and lectgure component, you may setu one section of lectue and fine section s of lab. All section will have the same class associagteion numbe3. When students register for the lecture, they will be asked to select a related section. Only the labs with the same associateion number as the lecture will be available in the list to choose from. Schedule of classes – Class sections associated dwith a speciif term.  Departments will be completing their won etnry of SOC information directly in the osystem. No more distrubtion of skiletons b eggin with Fall o07.  Basic Data page O Session – determines begin and end dates of the class. These dates can be changed but changes have a impact on drops / withdrawals and refunds. O Component – the primary component defaults and you can select any other componet that has been setup on the course catalg. O Location – indicates where ht ecalsss is taught, either on a coampus or on of 9 other fof- campus general locations. The spedifi site is dindicated on the MEetgs page. O Courese Attirubt – indicagte the calss funding code.  Meetings Page O Facility ID – indicate the building and room where a class is taught if on campus. If off- campus, indicate the site. Department that have scheduled deaprmentally assigne rooms will continue to do wo using new room scheduling software clale dAd Astra. Traoning on that software will occur in the near furute.s O Meeting Pattern – dependin gon days of week and being time of calss, the end time is automatically populated and can be changed as needed. Additional rows can be added for different meeting days/times. All meeting patterns display to the student. You are no longer required to enter a meeting time for internet classes. O Instrucgtor ID – one or more instructos can be assigned to each class. In self-served, an instrucr will onlol see/ have access to the class he is assigned to an an instruct. Access can be granted to deletages, simlar to what is available in Goster Grades.  Enrollment Control page O Class Status – determines staus of class,- cative, stop entrollemtn cancelled, etc. O Enrollment capacity – sttablishes class size O Consent – if tset to DCept concent or Instructo consent, this section requires permission fromt eh school / dept/ instructo before enrollment in the calss can occur. This is simlar to current suppressed line number,but displays in the calss search. O 12ws/ 2nd auto enroll section – Allows you to indicate a sction that sutdhet shoulbe automatically enrolled in if they registr for this section – a lecture/ require lab scenario. O Resection to Section – Allow you to indicate a section studentn should be enrolled in autlaatically if this section fills.  Reserve Capacity page O Similar to SIS where a course edit isused to restrict or control who can enroll in a course during pre-registration. O Allows you to reserve space in a class fro a certain group of students. O You can reser all seats or only a perotion . O You can serve the seats for the entire regtigtratgion perison oor only for a certain period.  Class Notes page O You can place notes on the class section to further explain something about the calss, a special activity such as a field trip, required material such as a laoptop, or additional expenses, insurag ecoverag ths is reaquired, tec. O Classes with class fees thar are in addition to tuition charges will need a Class Note to identify those fees. O Some clas notes are predefined and are selected from the Class Nogtes table. O Other class notes that are specific to a term or dagte can be written in the Free Form afield.  Adujsut Class SAssociates / Class Sections – notify registrat when these items are different from setu pon on the cCourse Catalog. O Changes to Course Requirement s/ course Edits O Changes to Requirment Designations / Geneeral Studeies Areas O Chage to CGrading Basis  Combined Sections – section sthat are scheudlin in the same term at the same time, same meetin groom, and ususaly same instructor. O These section can have the same or different subject and course numbers. O Sombined sections that are generally thaught in this manner can be setup as permanent combinations. Permanent combitnation will roll when the Scheudle of Classes rolls to the new term. Admustments can then be made as needed.
