• Standard 4 - Plans instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, students, curriculum goals, and learning and development theory. Rationale: This first lesson will be the base of the unit with the students gaining knowledge about the start of the Civil War and will be used throughout the unit. The subject matter being taught goes along with analysis of historical themes by explaining the causes of the Civil War, i.e. Slavery, Regionalization, Abolitionism.

• Standard 5 - Understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies and appropriate technology to meet students’ needs. Rationale: Students need interaction and also personal reflective time and they gain that in this lesson through their group work and their individual blogging time. This lesson also incorporates the various MI's by having spatial and musical elements while incorporating bodily kinesthetic properties.

• Standard 8 - Understands and uses a variety of formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and support the development of the learner. Rationale: The group work and recorded material will show the instructor assessment on the group's understanding. The part of the lesson where the students will be blogging by themselves will be graded according to a rubric that will be provided to the students during the class.

Teaching and Learning Sequence:

1. When the students enter the classroom they will enter with desks in groups of four which will be about five groups of desks in the classroom. The students will be hooked with an image and music playing in the background while they are coming into the classroom. In their groups I will show them visually how to set up their blog accounts for the class and their assignment. I will then have the groups discuss the causes of the Civil War based upon the hand out they receive in their groups. They will then report back to the class and finally blog about the causes that they concentrated on. (20 Min). What, Where, Why, Hook, Verbal, Spatial, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Bodily-kinesthetic.

2. After the groups have gone over the handout about the causes of the Civil War the class will be led in a discussion about the various causes of the Civil War. Each group will have to give a brief report to the class. The discussion will include the various causes that were on their handouts and also what will be found in the textbook that they read from. They will then be asked some clarifying questions by the instructor to make sure the students understand the concepts that are being discussed. (30 Min). Equip, Verbal, Spatial, Bodily-kinesthetic, and Interpersonal.

3. After the class is done discussing the causes they will report on their blog the causes of the Civil War and answer questions that are on the projector. During this time the students will be doing their assessments and able to express themselves through their blog and their ideas on the causes of the Civil War. (25 Min). Explore, Experience, Rethink, Revise, Verbal, Interpersonal, Intrapersonal, and Bodily-kinesthetic.

4. This lesson will allow the instructor to assess the learning of the students through their answers to the blog by posting comments for feedback. This lesson connects to the other lessons in the unit because it is the first one. This is the building block on which the other lessons will be built upon. Without the causes of the Civil War there is no Civil War therefore this lesson is the most essential to the unit. (15 Min). Evaluate, Intrapersonal, and Bodily-kinesthetic. Reflection:
