JOB SPECIFICATION

Purpose of Job

The education and welfare of a designated class in accordance with the requirements of the Teachers’ Conditions of Employment, having due regard to the requirements of the National Curriculum, the school’s aims and objectives, schemes of work and any policies of the LEA and the Governing Body. Above all to share in the corporate responsibility for the well being, discipline and education of all pupils.

Main Activities and Responsibilities

 Teach a KS1 class.  Ensure a close match between the learning experiences offered and the individual needs of pupils in their class through short term planning and formative assessment; thus giving each pupil both appropriate academic challenges and positive self esteem bred from achieving success.  Give pupils the opportunity to experience a range of teaching styles and groupings within the class.  Organise a stimulating learning environment and maintain a high standard of display both in the classroom and around the school.  Take account of the range of learning styles within any class group and allow pupils appropriate chances to manage their learning and develop independence.  Provide opportunities for personal, social and moral development.  Maintain high standards of behaviour in accordance with the school behaviour policy.  Plan work, maintain records and assess pupils’ progress and provide honest, professional, written and verbal reports to parents in accordance with LEA and school policy.  Be available for consultation with internal and external persons directly involved with each pupil’s education.  Participate in whole staff meetings and other professional groups as part of directed time and regularly review personal performance (e.g. through performance management) in a cycle of professional development.  Collaborate in the development of policies and schemes of work.  Undertake other administrative duties in respect of the class as required by the Headteacher.  Take responsibility for the management, or shadowing of, a negotiated curriculum area.

The person appointed should:

 hold qualified teacher status.  have experience with KS1 children.  have knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the KS2 National Curriculum and its implications.  be able to demonstrate an understanding of how children learn.  have good interpersonal skills, being able to work as a member of a team.  be able to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to professional development.  be able to demonstrate commitment to the vision and values of the school
