Mrs. Brown’s Kindergarten News

October 2016

Greetings!

We are now settled into our routines and schedules; the children have adjusted very well! I am very proud of all the hard work they have put in so far.

In September, we spent the month getting to know colors and the zoo phonics animals. We also learned how to write, sort, and order numbers to 5. In reading we practiced the letters/sounds Aa, Ee, and Hh.

During October, we have some fun activities planned to learn about the season of fall, pumpkins, and leaves. We finished up Chapter 1 in math; Chapter 2 will be all about comparing numbers to 5. Look for these activities and homework sheets in the Thursday folders. We will continue to learn more letters/sounds in reading such as Kk, Mm, and Rr. The sight words we will be working on are see, he, I, a, me, to. Please help your child to memorize these words. In a couple of weeks, you will also start to see reading homework coming home in the Thursday folders. Please have your child spend 2-3 DAYS reading their homework, you will initial at the bottom of the homework that they read it, and send it back when it is completed. Thanks for your help with this.

Our first field trip is planned for October 19th; it will be an all day trip so please have the children wear tennis shoes and comfortable clothing. Remember that if you would like to join us that you need to fill out the volunteer information located on our school website. I have most permission slips returned, please get those back to me as soon as possible, I need to get a lunch count in advance. Our Halloween party is planned for Monday, October 31st. The children can bring costumes in a bag, labeled with their names. No weapon accessories allowed! We will be visiting Grizzly Peak in the afternoon, more information to follow. Please remember to send a jacket with your child every day. It is chilly outside in the mornings, and often windy in the afternoon. Also, please label all coats, backpacks, lunchboxes etc. with your child’s name. You would be amazed at how big the lost and found gets!

Please feel free to call or come in to visit if you have any questions.
