PART 1 - GENERAL

1.05 SUBMITTALS

A. Product Data: Door manufacturer's technical data for each type of door required, including details of construction relative to materials, dimensions of individual components, profiles and finishes.

B. Shop Drawings: Indicate location and size of each door; elevation of each door; construction details not covered in product data including those for stiles, rails, panels, and moldings; location and extent of hardware cutouts.

C. Samples: Corner section, 1'-0" square, showing edges, faces, joinery and material qualities of typical stile, rail, molding and panel for each exposed material, door type and finish required. Submit samples of door faces representing typical range of color and grain for each veneer and lumber species required.

D. Specific Product Warranty: Submit written agreement on door manufacturer's standard form signed by Manufacturer, Installer and Contractor, agreeing to repair or replace defective doors which have warped (bow, cup or twist) or which show telegraphing of core construction below in face veneers, or do not conform to tolerance limitations of NWMA and AWI.

1. The warranty shall also include refinishing and reinstallation which may be required due to repair or replacement of defective doors.

1.06 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Fire Rated Panel wood Doors: Provide panel wood doors which are identical in materials and construction to units tested in door and frame assemblies per ASTM E 152, NFPA 80, NFPA 252 and which are labeled and listed for fire ratings indicated by UL, Warnock Hersey or other testing and inspection agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.

1. Positive Pressure - UL 10C/UBC-7-2-97.

B. Quality Standard: Doors to comply with WDMA I.S.6A (Window and Door Manufacturers Association).

1.07 PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Protect doors during transit, storage and handling to prevent damage, soiling and deterioration. Comply with WDMA How to Store, Handle, Finish, Install and Maintain Wood Doors and with manufacturer's instructions and with applicable requirements of referenced door standard.

B. Identify each door with individual opening numbers which correlate with shop drawing designation system for doors, frames and hardware, using temporary, removable or concealed markings.

C. Conditioning: Do not delivery or install doors until conditions for temperature and relative humidity have been stabilized and will be maintained in storage and installation areas during remainder of construction period.

1. Do not subject interior doors top extremes in either heat or humidity. HVAC systems should be operational and balanced, providing a temperature range of 50 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit and 30% to 60% relative humidity.

D. Delivery, Store and Handling

1. Store doors flat and off the floor on a level surface in a dry, well-ventilated building. Do not store on edge. Protect doors from dirt, water and abuse.

2. Certain wood species are light sensitive. Protect doors from exposure to light (artificial or natural) after delivery.

3. When handling doors, always lift and carry. Do not drag across other doors or surfaces. Handle with clean hands or gloves. 2.08 WARRANTY

A. Special Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace doors that fail in materials or workmanship within specified warranty period.

1. Failures include, but are not limited to, the following: a. Warping (bow, cup, or twist) more than 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) in a 42-by-84-inch (1067-by-2134-mm) section. b. Telegraphing of core construction in face veneers exceeding 0.01 inch in a 3-inch (0.25 mm in a 76.2-mm) span.

B. Warranty Period for Solid-Core Interior Doors: Life of installation.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 MANUFACTURERS

A. WDMA Grades:

1. Premium Grade - The highest grade commercially available in both material and workmanship. For transparent finish. 2. Custom Grade - The typical and normal grade in both material

and workmanship. For opaque and transparent finish. B. WDMA I.S.6A construction, using Hot Press method for laminating door materials. Door construction of stiles and rails must include wood composite crossbanding between core material and face veneers. Edge banding and sticking profile must be solid lumber (veneered profile is not acceptable).

C. Core material for Stile and Rail Components

1. Structural Composite Lumber Core (SCLC) is an engineered hardwood composite sometimes referred to as LSL (Laminated Strand Lumber). The material complies with WDMA minimum performance levels for interior applications with screw holding power of 540 lbs., average modulus of rupture of 4,000 psi, average modulus of elasticity of 600,000 psi and density of 38 lbs. per cubic foot.

D. Stiles (Vertical Edges) Stiles are hardwood, one piece.

1. Compatible - Similar in overall color, grain, character and contrast as the face veneer. 2. Matching - Same species as face veneer. 3. Closed Grain Hardwood - Manufacturer's option for painted stile edges.

E. Rails (Horizontal Edges) - Rails are low density lumber or structural composite lumber (SCL) as specified in core section. SCL must meet the minimum requirements of WDMA.

F. Veneers:

1. Grade: AWI Veneer Grade "A" 2. Cut: Plain sawn 3. Species: Red Oak 4. Match: Random match panels. 5. Assembly: Running 6. Thickness: Minimum 1/20" thick.

G. Assembly of Stile and Rail Components: Stile, rails, and mullions must be joined with both 1/2" wooden dowels and cope and stick joints. Doweled butt joints or cope and stick only joints are not allowed.

H. Glass Panels: supplied by Manufacturer.

1. 1/4 inch tempered for non-rated openings.

I. Mouldings: Solid lumber. Profiles as shown on drawings.

J. Adhesive: ASTM D 3310. Wet-use adhesive.

K. Low-emitting materials: provide doors with adhesives and composite wood products that do not contain urea formaldehyde.

2.03 FABRICATION

A. Fabricate stile and rail wood doors to produce doors complying with referenced standards.

B. Glazed Openings: Trim glazed openings with solid wood mouldings of profile indicated, removable one side.

C. Hardware Preparations: All cutouts for mortise hardware shall be made at the factory from hardware manufacturer's templates. Approved shop drawings, hardware and door frame schedules and hardware manufacturer's templates shall be furnished by the appropriate subcontractor. Locate hardware to comply with DHI-WDHS- 3 and DHI A115-W series standards, and per NFPA 80 standards.

1. Screw holes for locks, hinges and surface mounted hardware shall be drilled in the field in accordance with door manufacturer's recommendations. All doors are to be sized to the respective openings, machined to receive necessary hardware per the hardware schedule to template and marked as the Architect's opening mark and hardware set numbers.

2. Specific locations for hardware to be coordinated between frame and door manufacturers.

2.04 FINISH

A. Comply with AWI Quality Standards, Section 1500, for sanding, filling countersunk fasteners, and similar work for finishing of wood doors, as applicable to each unit of work.

B. Finishing: Prefinished wood doors at factory. Transparent finish.

1. Manufacturer's standard finish with performance requirements comparable to AWI and WDMA TR-6 catalyzed plyurethane. 2. Stain color as selected by Architect from full range of door manufacturer's available colors for wood species specified. Minimum 6 colors. Semi-gloss finish.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION

A. Examine installed door frames prior to handing doors: Verify that frames comply with indicated requirements for type, size, location, and swing characteristics and have been installed with plumb jambs and level heads.

1. Reject doors with defects. 2. Do not proceed with installation until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.02 INSTALLATION

A. Hardware: For installation see Section 08 70 00 - Hardware.

B. Job-Fit Doors: Align and fit doors in frames with uniform clearances and bevels as indicated below; do not trim stiles and rails in excess of limits set by manufacturer. Machine doors for hardware. Seal cut surfaces after fitting and machining.

1. Fitting clearances for non-rated doors:

a) Provide 1/8 inch (3mm)at jambs and heads. b) 1/16 inch (1.5mm) per leaf at meeting stiles for pairs of doors. c) 1/4 inch(6mm) from bottom of door to top of decorative floor finish or covering. Where threshold is shown or scheduled, provide 1/4 inch(6mm)clearance from bottom of door to top of threshold.

2. Bevel non-rated doors 1/8 inch(3mm) in 2 inch(50.8mm) at lock and hinge edges. 3. Fit doors to frames for uniform clearance at each edge.

C. Installation to comply with WDMA I.S. 1A and NPPA 80.

3.03 ADJUSTING AND PROTECTION

A. Operation: Rehang or replace doors which do not swing or operate freely.

B. Protect doors as required to ensure that doors are without damage at time of Substantial Completion.
