Membership Enquiry Questionnairereply

Membership enquiry questionnaire reply

A member can obtain membership details over the telephone by contacting our Customer Contact Centre. Alternatively they can approach the employer to request a statement or complete the web from SM27A.

Members are asked to read the membership enquiry factsheet before making contact with the employer or NHS Pensions.

If queries remain after reading the factsheet, form SM27B will be received by the employer regarding current or recent employment enquiries and where one or more of the following is relevant:

 Missing pensionable employment  Incorrect employment start/leaving date  Part time employment  Disallowed days.

Members are asked to complete form SM27C for direct referral to NHS Pensions for historic (older than seven years ago) or for other enquiries not listed above.

Employers should try to resolve the enquiry with the member and where relevant, make amendment via Pensions Online (POL) or Electronic Staff Record (ESR).

As the member may not be aware of non pensionable employment already amended by NHS Pensions, a check should be made before submitting any requested changes to the member pension record. Please consider if any of the following may be applicable:

 Non pensionable employment overlapping with whole time membership with your own organisation or another employer  Non pensionable part time hours that will exceed whole time hours with another concurrent employment with your organisation or another employer  Has the member signed an SD502 form to opt out?  Is the employment non pensionable due to NHS pension benefits already being in payment?  Where the employment was ‘Bank’ or ‘as and when’, did actual work commence?  Was the employment through an Agency or as a non pensionable board member?

The attached SM27D form can be used to reply back to the member in all cases.

If you are not able to make the necessary amendment to the member record, please inform the member using this form but also pass the information to NHS Pensions to process.
