The PCFLIGHTSYSTEMS PPCEFISLOG.EXE program is intended to be used in conjunction with the PCFLIGHTSYSTEMS IMU modules and an iPaq series PDA. PPCEFISLOG.EXE provides an EFIS display on the iPaq screen and also simultaneously stores the IMU and GPS data into a data file on the iPaq. The data is also output in real-time from the iPaq serial port at the rate of 115,200 Baud. Data is output at a frame rate of faster than 10 times per second.

USAGE

The program should be installed and run exactly the same as the standard PPCEFIS.EXE (refer to the PCEFIS user manual for standard instructions). The program is named PPCEFISLOG.EXE. Running PPCEFISLOG.EXE will provide an EFIS display on the iPaq. While the system is running the IMU and GPS data will be stored into a file in the iPaq My Documents directory. Each file has a unique name and is time stamped to ease the identification of the stored data file. The “Exit” button of the PPCEFISLOG.EXE file must be pressed upon completion of a data acquisition session. This will ensure the data file is properly closed and that the file is saved.

While PPCEFISLOG.EXE is running the data is also output in “real-time” from the iPaq serial port. The data is output at the rate of 115,200 Baud, 8 bit data, one stop bit, with no parity. This data line can be accessed at pin 2 of the DB-9 connector on the end of the iPaq interface cable. Note that it is recommended that you “T” a line from this pin for use into any auxiliary data capture device, also pin 5 should be used as the data reference ground connection for the data capture device. These lines should also still be connected to the IMU module to ensure that it operates properly. In summary the data can be captured by using a signal “T’d” from the DB-9 Pin 2 connection, with signal ground “T’d” from the DB-9 pin 5 connection.

Upon startup the PPCEFISLOG.EXE program will go through a calibration procedure and will then begin outputting data to the log file and serial output port of the iPaq. Data will continue to be output and logged until the “EXIT” button is pressed. The log files can be found in the “My Documents” directory of the iPaq. DATA FORMAT
