Call to Order (Clark Upton, President)

Secretary's Report - (Greta Willis for Brooke Blankenship) Report and previous month's minutes. Approved with no changes.

Treasurer’s Report (Michele Cavoto for Louise) Highlights:  We are currently under budget for the school year although many of our budget expenditures will fall in second semester

Old Business Exposure Manager Update (Dawn Wine Ruple) We currently received photo orders for $330 which more than covers our initial outlay of $300 for the service.

Band Camp Costs (Amy Labarge - absent) Report tabled until February. Brief discussion, Greta spoke with Greg Oaks (Spotswood) and asked what his students pay for band camp ($150).

SVMI (Daniel Upton) Daniel spoke with Ben Frenchak, band director from Broadway High School. He is in agreement that we should split SVMI into two separate events, one for each school. We would still pool volunteer resources for 2014. This year will be a trial year to see if the area can support two quality events. Tentative dates Sept. 28 and Oct. 10. Daniel will start pulling committees together, also looking at competing marching band competitions in the region (Richmond, Roanoke, Northern Virginia areas, etc.)

Costco bank credit/debit cards (Louise – absent) Tabled until February

CHARMS Update (Clark Upton) Emails were cleaned up so we anticipate more families receiving booster emails

Director’s Report (Daniel Upton) Sr. Band Trip to Nashville * April 10-April 13 * Cost is $500 on a first come, first served basic * Travel will be in minivans

Upcoming Events  Jan. 11 – District Band Auditions  Jan. 10-11 – City/County Weekend – Rehearsal on Fri. @ BHS, performance at Forbes Center @ JMU on Sat.  Jan. 31-Feb. 1 – District Band Event hosted at HHS. Daniel is in charge. Three bands: middle school, high school concert, high school symphonic  Fri., Sat. lunchtime help, setup, serving, need help with director hospitality, home-cooked meal for three conductors, HHS staff eating with them, concessions. Need to consider dietary needs. Students will do stage setup. 320 participants, 40 directors.  Jan. 18 – VCU Festival of Winds/Percussion  Jan. 23 – Middle School Band Day - all day rehearsal, evening concert (opportunity to solicit parents to help with District Band event?)  Jan. 24-26 – VT Honor Band Weekend  Feb. 12-16 – HHS musical

Committee Reports  Concessions (Amy – absent) – tabled until February  Uniforms (Sharon) – working on pricing for next fall, have to have order in by beginning of February  Transportation – nothing to report  Fundraising (Annette – absent) tabled until February (JMU Concessions recap, Applebee’s opportunity, other possible opportunities)  Student Leadership – Purchase requests - Interest in purchasing computer and workstation for composition, recording scales, vacuum cleaner also on wish list

New Business (Clark Upton) Awards, Plaques, Certificates – would like to create plaques and memorabilia to display in the band room.  Our two named scholarships  Band Booster Scholarship  Booster service award  Framed POC photos Set up Google Drive account to post minutes and other docs. Michele Cavoto noted that we have an existing account, [email protected], we just need to retrieve/change the password (Brooke tried password Michele supplied, it didn’t quite work).
