Field Day

Field Day is scheduled to take place this Friday, March 14th. Preparations have been made in order for this day to be a success. In addition, Officer Simmons will be on campus to support us on this endeavor. This year a “Leisure Zone” will be available. In this area, students will be allowed to dance (D.J. will be on site), jump rope, hula hoop, and hang out with their classmates. No games or other competitive sports will be in this area. Please note that parent volunteers must be cleared through V.I.P.S. (Volunteers in Public Schools). If there are any students with behavioral issues that are not participate, please notify that student’s parent(s) no later than Wednesday, March 12th. All teachers are being asked to talk with their homeroom class about the expected behavior and attitudes during the events.

Morning Drop Off

As a campus were must maximize our instructional time as much as possible. Teachers are being encouraged to start the instructional day as soon as the bell rings. If parents want to meet, then encourage them to set up an appointment during your planning period. The morning is not an appropriate time to conference.

Testing

Now that we are in testing mode, teachers are being asked to utilize the resources provided. 3rd and 4th graders will take the Spring D.B.A. (District Benchmark Assessment) on Tuesday, March 11th and Wednesday, March 12th. On Thursday, March 13th, 5th graders will take the Science D.B.A. Mrs. Palmer will also conduct a STAAR security training session (PK-2 in the morning; and 3-5th in the afternoon) on this day.

Building Issues We want to make sure that all classrooms are well ventilated since we are now in testing mode. Each grade chairperson will meet with their respective team to see if there are any other building matters that need to be resolved.

Questions/Concerns

The P.T.O. would like to host our annual musical at another site off campus. However, there are a lot of issues to consider: i.e., parental support (students may not come if their parent doesn’t bring them), the length of time/time of day, transportation issues, security factors (being in an unfamiliar building), etc. Therefore, it has been decided that this is not feasible for our campus at this time. In addition, Ms. Harrison mentioned that the PK-2 Science Fair is approaching. If any assistance is needed, please let her know. We want our Science Fair to be a success.
