WORKSHOPS FELT MAKING WORKSHOPS DATES: PLACE: TIMES: WORKSHOP LEADER: Carol Outram Felt-making 101 involves laying down a web of woollen fibres (fleece/roving) at right angles to form a batting. The wet felting process involves the adding of soap and water, followed by agitation and pressure to encourage the fibres to interlock and become a fabric. Some of the samples made in this class can also be used in the needle felting class.

WORK SHOP 1 TECHNIQUES OF WET FELTING 10am to 3.30pm $75 Introduction to felt making – hand out Learning the basic technique Using colour and pattern How to make pre-felt How to design and make a small item OR create an Art picture PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS 2 to 3 old towels Tea towel – white or light Sushi mat – if you have one Small plastic bowl Large zip-lock plastic bag Apron to protect your clothing – (depends on how messy you are) Rubber or nitrile gloves – if you have sensitive hands (purchase at art store or pharmacy) Basic Sewing Kit (needle / thread / scissors) Pens, pencil, paper (for notes or sketching ideas) Rolling pin and a sense of humour

WORKSHOP 1 STARTER KIT $20 Bubble wrap, olive oil soap, plastic sheeting, sushi mat, 4 colours of merino fleece/roving Additional merino fleece can be purchased if needed. Left over fleece can be used in the needle felting workshop WORKSHOP 2 NEEDLE FELTING

With needle felting dry fibres are encouraged to interlock through the repeated ‘poking’ of barbed needles. Needle felting is used to create 3D shapes, flat pictures and designs, as well as detail for other types of felting. Don’t forget, samples produced in the previous class can be used. Felting foam, needles and fleece/roving available for purchase
