Minecraft Spelling Tests in the classroom.

Overview I love Minecraft, my students love Minecraft and yet there was no obvious way of bringing their love of Minecraft into a classrom with only 1 computer and projector. I hence decided that I was going to create a weekly set of spelling tests for Year 1 to Year 6 in the world of Minecraft. Please note I am not in any way connected to the makers of Minecraft or Microsoft. Why I will offer these resources once a week. I want to save teachers time and effort, while also letting them have resources the students can complete both at home and at school. How Here are the words each Year Group will learn this week. These are in line with the New National Curriculum spelling strategy.

Week 1 Here is a set of weekly spelling words for my weekly spelling test online.

Example of how to complete these forms. http://www.drfog.co.uk/spelling-test-online/

The students have two options. The first is my online look - say - cover - spell - check Minecraft video, where the students can work either at school or at home.

There there is the weekly spelling test video. Again the students are free to practice it at home as well as at school.

In addition, teachers, parents or students are free to download the Minecraft map of spelling island and deliver the spelling test at their own speed or to change the words for differentiation.

Objectives and outcome At the end of this activity, the students will be able to correctly spell their spelling list. These words can also be used to differentiate groups as some might try an easier or harder group of words. These words are great for letting students explore the words and discover the spelling patterns on their own.
