Democratic Club of North-West Volusia County Minute Report for February 23, 2010

Call to Order: Steve Oxier called the meeting to order in the community room of the Deland Police Station on Howry Ave., and was called to order at 7:20 pm. The pledge of Allegiance was recited. The minutes for the February, 2010 meeting were read, motioned to be approved, seconded, and unanimously accepted by the club.

President's Report: Steve Oxier presented his report. The club website; http://www.nwvcdemocrat.org/, has been revamped, on which you can now access 2010 election info, pictures, past minutes, and past treasurer's reports. It is, once again, time to call Bill Nelson's office and pressure him to stand for a decent health-care plan. His numbers are (202) 224.5274, (888) 671.4091, ad his fax number is (202) 228.2183. His representative's number is (850) 942.8415.

Vice President's Report: Jeff Shepherd, the Vice President had no business to report.

Treasurer's Report: The treasurer's report was moved and seconded to be approved.

Old Business: The officer nominations were announced, including; Paul Rasch (President), Jeff Shepherd (Vice President), Judy Thompson (Treasurer), Hilliary Martin (Recording Secretary), Kevin Winchell (Corresponding Secretary), Judy Craig (Parliamentarian), and Ellen Smith, Paul Lachelier, and Paul Nehrig (Executive Board). The opportunity fr nominations from the floor was opened. New Business: There was no new business to report.

Speakers: Paul Partyka announced his campaign initiative to replace Suzanne Kosmas for District 24. His platform involves re-initiation of communication between the seat and it's constituents. Joyce Cusack announced her initiative to run for Volusia County Council. She wants to bring more clean industry to our state and county. Her main platforms are community involvement and safety. Announcements: Judy Craig announced this year's Democratic Women's Club picnic at Cracker Creek Park in Port Orange. Headliner speakers will be Suzanne Kosmas and Alex Sink. Tickets are $16, and tables for vendors are open to all Democratic candidates. Judy Craig is also founding the “Everything is Possible” Foundation, which will aid the disabled.
