Dear Parent/Guardian:

Welcome Back! We are incredibly excited to begin our year here at George Washington Carver Elementary School. This promises to be a year filled with great opportunities for all of our students as we strive to find ways that we can be even better than Carver has been before. We embark on this journey with a pledge to you, our students and parents, that this will be a year of engaging, meaningful and rigorous work in our classrooms, combined with special events and activities to encourage our Challengers to be involved and stay connected. Please know that we highly value home and school communication here at Carver. It is vital and plays an integral role in each student’s success. We encourage you to contact us when the need arises, and to stay in the know about your child’s studies, assignments, assessments, and school activities, as well as other events and happenings. In the spirit of communication, the following represent new school-wide procedures for arrival, including student drop-off, and dismissal and parent pick-up:

Morning Entry Procedure Primary Students a. Students in grades 1st-5th will enter through the Main Entry Door #1 and proceed to the gym where they will sit according to classroom. b. Students are encouraged not to bring phones with them to school. If caught with a cell phones, your child must turn it in to the main office immediately. Your child can retrieve their phone at dismissal. c. Teachers will escort their class to receive their breakfast and begin their morning schedule.

Pre-K- and Kindergarten Students a. Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten will enter the Wheatley Center through Door #2. b. Parents must sign students in and teachers will receive them and walk them into their respective classrooms.

Middle School Students a. 6th-8th Grade Students will enter Building B through the back entrance. b. Students with cell phones must turn them in to the main office immediately upon entry and then report to the gym.

End of Day Exit Procedure Main building 1) 1st and 2nd graders will exit out the main door of the Main building. 2) 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will exit out the west door (#5) and cross the street at Corliss & 133rd place for safety. 3) At 3:00 p.m., teachers on the 1st floor will escort their students out the main entry door. Teachers on the 2nd floor will walk their students out the west entry doors. School staff will be outside the west and main doors to assist in facilitating an orderly dismissal and clearing of school grounds. Reminders: *Please do not double park or park on the passageway in front of the Wheatley and A buildings. *Park only on the North side of 133rd Place or in the parking lot. *Students should only cross the street at the crosswalk.
