How time flies ! Christmas is almost here and then we’ll be quickly into 2012 and a whole new Pony Club Year.
A few updates and reminders that we’ve collected in to one newsletter:
We have free copies for every member of The Pony Club Annual 2011, which we will get to events, rallies and parties. Just to mention 2 Belvoir members who feature in it, well done ! Lucy Scholl, who jumped a brilliant triple clear to come 2nd in the National Novice SJ Championships ( 90cm) in Cheshire in August Emily Playne, who came 7th in the Musto Open Eventing National League (1.10m ) and won a training bursary
Also congratulations to ex Belvoir member, Willa Newton ( 21) , whose dad Joey Newton is Belvoir Leics field master, and mum Emma very kindly organises our branch team showjumping, for her great dual achievement in winning the individual Silver medal and Gold team medal for Great Britain on Neelix , at the European Young Rider Eventing Championships in the summer, fantastic, well done Willa and your support team !
A reminder from our Membership Secretary !
The Pony Club Membership runs from 1st January until 31st December each year. All current memberships are therefore due to expire on 31st December 2011.
Membership of the Pony Club not only gives your child access to high quality instruction, fun and friendships, it also provides you with the reassurance of an extensive £30 million liability insurance.
I attach a copy of the renewal form (page 3) and would also ask that those who can claim Gift Aid, please do so. For every individual subscription which is Gift Aided, the Belvoir branch receives a credit of £10 (£25 per family).
As a reminder to those who are in Pony Club teams, or who would like to be considered for teams, the membership renewal form MUST be received before 31st January 2012 to be eligible for selection.

Belvoir Hunt Pony Club Christmas Newsletter 2011 Arena UK – “Club Night “ Rallies These have been very much appreciated so far, with a great mix of older and younger members, all enjoying SJ and / or flatwork instruction, chatting and chips !

30th Dec – Belvoir Hunt Pony Club Meet – 11am Aswarby Park, nr Sleaford By kind invitation of the Playne family, a brilliant opportunity for all the family to have a day trying hunting with the Belvoir Hunt at special Belvoir Hunt Pony Club rates. Sunday 29th January – Laughton Manor, Belvoir Junior & Novice Show Jumping A fun competition, heights start at 45cm lead rein and go up to 80cm with pairs classes too. Schedule and entry form will be circulated soon.
Thursday February 2nd - Annual Parents Meeting / Table Top Equestrian Sale – Honington Grange Conference Room 7 for 7.30pm start. A date for your diary, more details in a few weeks, but a combination of a chance to have a report on your branch, talk about plans for 2012 and feedback any thoughts / suggestions, with a chance to sell / buy any equine related ( clean !) secondhand items.
Pony Club Clothing: Belvoir Hunt Navy Blue Sweatshirts are £12, Showerproof, fleece lined BHPC jackets are now £35 for all sizes, from tiny children to Adult, we’re going to try and get stock to the Christmas parties, or please talk to Janet Denny on 01949 843 952 or Sharon Rowe on 01476 585962.
Ties, metal badges and the manual of horsemanship are available via Amanda Miller, or via the shop section on the main pony club site www.pcuk.org .
Training and Testing in 2012 : We are working on a programme of preparation for and testing for Pony Club tests throughout 2012 as we know we have many members who would like to do them and they are a great way of building knowledge about horse and pony care.
A list of the tests is attached together with a form, please complete this and return to Trish Varnam, indicating the test you are interested in working towards.
We will not encourage children to do tests ahead of the recommended ages, as it is the ability to articulate the knowledge to a stranger that can be challenging rather than the knowledge itself, and we will work on both in the training sessions to ensure our candidates are well prepared.
Instructors courses:
Belvoir Hunt Pony Club Christmas Newsletter 2011 After Christmas is a key time for Instructors to update their CPD / accreditation to ensure they are covered by PC insurance and are able to teach for us through the year. There are 2 National courses in March led by Yogi Beisner , details on this link http://www.pcuk.org/index.php/training/training_annual_instructors_conference/ and we are planning to organise an Instructors course locally in Jan / Feb, please contact Trish Varnam on [email protected] if you are interested.

Committee changes and Opportunities :
As the year comes to a close, Jeanette Brightwell, who for many years has been an absolute star organising the outsourced logistics for the branch, including marquees, loos, jumps, rosettes, badges to name but a few items, is stepping down to spend more time perfecting her own dressage. We send huge thanks for all her hard work over the years and very best wishes for some great % scores!
Helen Coy, who is standing down as Branch Secretary as it is challenging to fit in with Heidi’s extensive showing commitments, is going to continue as a committee member and help us with some of the logistics, and Sarah Robertson, who has been a fantastic Lincs Area Secretary is now taking on the Branch Secretary role, so thank you very much to both of them.
We have a vacancy for Lincs Area Secretary, where the key focus is to act as a contact point for Lincs members and help ensure sufficient events are organised in Lincs. Please have a word with Sarah or myself if you would like more info or are interested.
It would also be extremely helpful ( as we own quite a few trailers, jumps, gymkhana kit etc) to have an Equipment manager, really just one person available on email and phone who keeps track of where the kit is, and who takes it where. This could be as involved as anyone would like to make it, would be a great help. Again, please contact myself on [email protected] or Sarah if you are interested in helping with this.
We’d previously asked for help updating the database, this is still very useful, but we’re working out how best to do it within data protection guidelines, so thanks for the offers – we’ve not forgotten and will come back to you in the New Year !
Mary Marshall, our wonderful treasurer and website manager / email guru is currently recovering from a planned operation, so we wish her a speedy recovery to full fitness.
I’d just like to thank everyone for their help and support to us all during 2011, wish everyone the very best Christmas and a happy, healthy and successful New Year.
