Dance Linx Constitution

Article I Dance Linx is a hip-hop dance organization committed to performing and providing entertainment to the general public. Our mission is to create a dance group unlike any other by using our style, creativity, and originality. This organization and its members shall not discriminate against any individual(s) for reasons of race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, national origin, sex, age, handicap, or Vietnam-era veteran status.

Article II Membership is open to currently enrolled students of The Ohio State University who are capable of achieving Dance Linx standards of hip-hop dance. Dance Linx members may not participate in any other dance affiliated team or group of The Ohio State University. Other individuals may be allowed to participate as special guests (i.e. alumni). These special guests do not have any privileges, rights, or benefits that the official members have.

Article III- Organization Leadership *Note: all positions ultimately assist one another (“overlap” of duties) President: Oversees all functions of Dance Linx and its related activities, productions of music, and main contact for performances.

Vice President: Assists the president and shares the associated responsibilities, creation and upkeep of the team website.

Secretary: Organizes paperwork (calendars for team members, attendance sheets, etc), notifies member (via email) in regards to any changes regarding calendar or practice.

Treasurer: Handles all income and expenditures (i.e. end of the year audits, collects quarterly dues, etc.) balances budget and organizes fundraising opportunities.

All members: contribute to choreography.

Article V- Meetings and Practices Practice dates and times will be set for the entire duration of each quarter. A minimum of two practices will be held per week. Each member must attend all practices assigned, unless excused by the president. If a practice is missed, the member must learn the material by the next practice. (There will be no re-teaching during scheduled practices) A large or great number of performances may require more practices. By-Laws

I. Rules and Regulations Demerits are penalties given to members for tardiness, missed practices/performances, malpractice, disrespect toward other members, or failure to pay quarterly dues. If a member receives fifteen demerits or more, the executive board will decide whether a suspension or expulsion from Dance Linx is necessary. However, special circumstances will be considered.

A. Malpractice and Disrespect i. Terms of malpractice and disrespect shall be determined by Dance Linx executive board leaders and members. ii. The number of demerits given to a member engaging in malpractice or disrespectful behavior will be determined by the Dance Linx executive board leaders. iii. If any executive board member should engage in any malpractice and/or disrespectful behavior, then the majority (with the assistance/guidance of the Dance Linx advisor) will decide on the appropriate number of demerits given. iv. The number of demerits given will be based on the severity of the act involved. v. NO PROFANITY is permitted. B. Tardiness v. Excessive tardiness will result in an appropriate consequence to be discussed the executive board. vi. Special circumstances will be considered (i.e. calling an executive board member to inform them you will be late, etc.). C. Missed Practices/ Performances vii. Excused absences will not result in any demerits. The absentee will fall behind in choreography and therefore be unlikely to perform. It is the absentee’s responsibility to obtain any information missed by his/her absence. viii. Unexcused tardiness from meeting times set for performances/events will result in two (2) demerits. ix. Unexcused absences from practice will result in five (5) demerits. x. Unexcused absences from performances will result in seven (7) demerits. xi. Excused tardies and absences must be presented to a member of the executive board (via email or telephone) 48 hours in advance. Unexcused tardiness and absences will result in the appropriate demerits. xii. All Dance Linx members must attend two practices prior to a performance/event in order to perform/participate. xiii. Special circumstances will be considered. D. Failure to pay quarterly dues xiv. Any member of Dance Linx who fails to pay his/her quarterly dues by the third (3rd) Friday of the quarter will not be permitted to perform until his/her dues are paid. xv. Each week after the third (3rd) Friday of the quarter that dues are not paid will result in one (2) demerits. xvi. Extra expenses for costumes/accessories will occur depending on the costume and/or performance.

II. Respect Members of Dance Linx are required to respect each other at all times. Any animosity between members will be left outside of Dance Linx and its related activities.

III. Choreography All choreography introduced to Dance Linx is property of and belongs to Dance Linx. It may not be copied of reproduced outside of Dance Linx and its performances. Breech of this law constitutes plagiarism and will result in expulsion from the Dance Linx organization.
