Dear Families and Friends of Pierce County 4-H

July 2014

t Dear Families and Friends of Pierce County 4-H,

n Hello everyone and welcome to the summer of 2014. My name is Shelby Springman and I have received the privilege of serving as a

r your 2014 Pierce County 4-H Summer Intern. Summer will be very exciting this e

t year as there will be many events taking place. Camps, trips, meetings, training t events, and of course the Fair are just a few things to start looking forward to. We m e l will be sure to keep everyone informed about upcoming events and deadlines s r

w throughout the summer. e o N

I grew up on a small farm near Wilmont, Minnesota, which is in the southwest f

H corner of the state. My family has been raising registered Shorthorn cattle for the -

4 past four generations. I was in Nobles County 4-H for 12 years and during that

n

y time, I not only grew a passion for showing livestock but also for the animal t I

n agriculture industry. The learning opportunities that 4-H provided shaped me into

u an individual ready to positively influence the future of agriculture. o C

H In the fall of 2014, I will be a senior at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls e

c majoring in Animal Science with a minor in Chemistry. Currently, I am the Sheep - r

e Chair of Block n Bridle, a Chancellor Student Ambassador, and a member of the i

4 P Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. These organizations have given me the opportunity to continue growing as a leader ready to face life’s challenges.

July/Augus Nelson Mandela once stated, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you t can use to change the world.” As you embark on your busy, fun-filled summer, take 2014 advantage of the educational and leadership opportunities available. Attending workshops and volunteering are great ways to gain knowledge and strengthen skills. Pierce County Extension By actively participating in the Nobles County 4-H program, I have witnessed how Office this program has shaped hundreds of youth into well-rounded individuals prepared Pierce County to impact society. This program has given me the life skills necessary not only for Office Building this position, but also for future careers. Working as your summer intern will allow 412 W. Kinne me to utilize and share these skills. I am very excited about this opportunity, and I Street look forward to meeting all of you. P. O. In addition what fun would it be if we didn’t explore the powers of food!!! Is there energy in food, and how can we tell? From an introductory lesson on physics, chemistry, food science to Newton’s Laws this is one day camp you will not want to miss. We will have a light snack so please note any food allergies.
