B4P 2R6 Student Population Approximately 3,500 full time undergraduate students Number of Programs 30 ADMISSIONS INFORMATION Basic Admissions General admission guidelines applicable to all programs: English 12, 4 Requirements additional grade 12 university preparatory classes. Grade 12 classes that can be used for admissions and program specific requirements can be found here: https://admissions.acadiau.ca/British_Columbia_and_the_Yukon_.html. Minimum Admissions Average 70%, however, 75% for Biology and Kinesiology. Average IB Information Students completing the IB diploma will be admitted with a minimum score of 24 for all programs. Students that obtain a 30 or higher will be offered one full year’s worth of credits (30 credit hours). Students that are only completing individual IB courses will be awarded credit for all exams completed at a 5/6/7. A scholarship average bonus will also be awarded for courses that reach this level. Acadia offers IB specific scholarships, also. Students can submit their predicted scores to obtain early admission. AP Information Students that receive a 4/5/6 on their AP exams will be offered a transfer credit, as well as a bonus percentage on their scholarship average. So long as the student can provide sufficient online courses, and record (i.e. transcript) of courses taken, they will be considered for correspondence admission purposes. Deferral Policy The Scholarship, Prize and Awards Committee of Senate allows students to defer their scholarship for up to one full academic year if the student does not participate in any further post-secondary education. Students who choose to defer must notify the Admissions office ([email protected]) once they decide to attend or return to full-time study. If the residence deposit was placed that will also carry over to the next year. Reporting of Grades We accept self-reported grades and unofficial transcripts from students applying directly from High School. English Proficiency TOEFL 90 and IELTS 6.5 (with no band below 6.0). Other language tests Requirements will be considered on an individual basis. Acadia operates its own EAP program on campus, with university professors teaching the program. Successful completion of the EAP program guarantees admission to the regular degree streams. In the event a student does not meet the minimum language score requirements, they will be offered dual admission into EAP + the degree of their choice. International students that graduate from a Canadian curriculum school (whether domestically or offshore) will have their language requirements waived. Contact: Liam Dutton ([email protected]). If they do not meet the entrance requirements for their 1st choice they will be considered for their 2nd. Students do not have to write two choices if they only have one. Students will not receive more than 1 offer and we ask students not to fill out another application- if they would like to change their program they can email [email protected] or can request a program change on their Acadia Central account, they will then be sent another offer if they meet the requirements. Application Deadline & No deadline. Application opens beginning of October. Acadia performs Fee rolling admissions and applications are accepted until programs are full. Fee: $40. Timing of offers/grades We do rolling admissions and early admission starting the beginning of used October. We also do on the spot admissions in person. SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION First Year Scholarships Students with an 80% or above are eligible for entrance scholarships. Students must have all documents in by March 1st. Guaranteed Scholarship Based on academic average, students with a minimum 80% average or Program higher are automatically considered for an Acadia Grade-Based Entrance Scholarships. INSTITUTIONAL HIGHLIGHTS • Steamspace: Steamspace aims to foster creativity and innovation, and to support all types of making. The space is designed to serve the creative needs of faculty, staff, and students – whether for academic or personal purposes. It will also be one of the first university makerspaces in North America that welcomes members of the surrounding community. The 2500 ft² space is home to a variety of tools for twenty-first century design, prototyping, and digital creation. It will host course activities such as using 3d printers and laser cutters. More information can be found here. • CASTL program (Canadian Alliance for Skills and Training in Life Sciences). • Growcer: The Growcer is an out-of-the-box local food solution located steps away from the dining hall. Acadia partnered with its food service provider Chartwells to bring the hydroponic, vertical growing system housed inside a repurposed shipping container to campus. It will produce greens and microgreens year-round and employ students.
