Bill Bright’s 7 Basic Steps To Successful Fasting & Prayer

1. Set Your Objective 2. Make Your Commitment 3. Prepare Yourself Spiritually 4. Prepare Yourself Physically 5. Put Yourself on a Schedule 6. End Your Fast Gradually 7. Expect Results

Put Yourself on a Schedule

For maximum spiritual benefit, set aside ample time to be alone with the Lord. Listen for His leading. The more time you spend with Him, the more meaningful your fast will be.

Identify, confess, and repent of all revealed sin before and during your fast. Continue to ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart and reveal any concealed area where you feel separated from God. Unconfessed sin and disobedience will hinder your prayer and fasting.

Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit's prompting in all areas of your life, since God will often require you to seek reconciliation or restoration in broken relationships.

● Pray for God to give you a hunger for the deeper things of God. ● Pray for God to speak to you about your relationship with Him. ● Pray for God to speak about your life as a disciple of Jesus Christ. ● Pray for God to speak about your faithfulness to him. ● Pray for God to speak for how he wants you to serve him. ● Pray for God to reveal to you what is the specific assignment. ● Pray for God to reveal what he wants you to learn. ● Pray for God to release the supernatural in your life. ● Pray for God about what you what him to do in your life. ● Pray for spiritual revival and awakening in your own personal life. ● Pray for your commitment to the Lord through David Chapel. ● Pray for spiritual revival and awakening in David Chapel. ● Pray for God to release the supernatural in David Chapel. ● Pray for God to bring the lost to him through David Chapel.

● Invite the Holy Spirit to work in you to will and to do His good pleasure according to Philippians 2:13. ● Invite God to use you. Ask Him to show you how to influence your world, your family, your church, your community, your country, and beyond. ● Pray for His vision for your life and empowerment to do His will.

Noon ● Return to prayer and God's Word. ● Take a short prayer walk. ● Spend time in intercessory prayer for your pastor and pastor’s family, community's and nation's leaders, for the world's unreached millions, for your family or special needs.

Evening ● Get alone for an unhurried time of "seeking His face." ● If others are fasting with you, meet together for prayer. ● Avoid any other distraction that may dampen your spiritual focus.

When possible, begin and end each day with a brief time of praise and thanksgiving to God. Longer periods of time with our Lord in prayer and study of His Word are often better spent alone.

Some Scriptures to Consider for Your Meditation

❖ “One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple… My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!’ Your face, Lord, I will seek” (Psalm 27:4, 8, NIV). ❖ “As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God?” (Psalm 42:1-2, NIV). ❖ “Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies” (Psalm 57:8-10, NIV). ❖ “Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge” (Psalm 62:5-8, NIV). ❖ “O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me” (Psalm 63:1-8, NIV). ❖ “Whom have I in heaven but you? And earth has nothing I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:26-26). ❖ “How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the LORD; my heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may have her young — a place near your altar, O LORD Almighty, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house; they are ever praising you… Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked” (Psalm 84:1-4, 10, NIV). ❖ “My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul” (Psalm 108:1). ❖ “My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times… My soul faints with longing for your salvation” (Psalm 119:20, 81, NIV). ❖ “I spread out my hands to you; my soul thirsts for you like a parched land” (Psalm 143:6, NIV). ❖ “People need more than bread for their life; they must feed on every word of God” (Matthew 4:4, NLT).

Fasting is Feasting Prayer (Bill Gaultiere)

By the mercy of Christ I shall not live by bread alone But by every word That proceeds from the mouth of God.

The Word of God Is alive and active; The Lord is right now speaking His life into my soul.

The Spirit of God That raised Christ from the dead Lives and prays in my body And reminds me of Jesus’ words.

So as I fast from food I feast with joy On the manna from heaven, The bread of angels, The Bread of Life, who is Jesus.

My food is to be one with Jesus: To do the will of the Father, To finish his works of love, To share my food with the hungry.
