The Danish Research Centre for Manorial Studies will host the conference at Gammel Estrup – the Manor Museum, Denmark. The 2017 conference is the third meeting of the ENCOUNTER and this year’s theme will be on the landscapes of the North European manors and country houses. Not just the grand estates but all manors and country houses, large and small, have had a notable influence, and they still play an important role in the physical outline as well as the identity of place in contemporary European rural communities. The programme consists of two conference days and one excursion day, and will present papers from Germany, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, The Netherlands and Denmark.

Practical information

Transport The city of Randers is easily accessible by air to either Aarhus Airport or Billund Airport, and then by bus to Randers, or by trains from Hamburg via Aarhus. Be aware that the conference begins at 9. a.m. on September 21st. You may want to arrive the night before. The Danish Centre for Manor Research is happy to help you organise your transportation to and from the conference.
