Knighthood Tā Matiu Rei We were extremely proud to celebrate with our acclaimed CE Tā Matiu Rei and his whānau, the knighthood he received last year.

We held two events – a whānau day where our tamariki enjoyed themselves eating unlimited Mr Whippy ice creams, hot donuts, kai and partaking in a range of rides and activities.

Iwi members then joined Tā Matiu for a celebratory dinner following the official Knighthood ceremony.

ā Tā Matiu has been a committed advocate for Ngāti Toa and Māori having dedicated T Matiu Rei & Teresa Wall much of the last 30 years to ensuring that the Ngāti Toa treaty settlement was achieved while taking leadership roles in Māori radio, fisheries and health advocacy.

In addition to the historic Ngāti Toa treaty settlement Tā Matiu was also integral in the 2011 Aquaculture Settlement for Te Tau Ihu.

This is a well deserved honour for a man that has served his iwi and Māori with determination and an unwavering commitment for over three decades. As Iwi and as Māori in general, we should be extremely proud of Tā Matiu and his achievement to date. Knighthood Dinner October 2016

Autumn Karatau-Te Kuru | Softball Ko Autumn Karatau-Te Kuru ahau. Our Manawatū team recently competed in the NATIONALS U17 tournament in Pukekohe. It was a fantastic opportunity not only for ourselves as players but for Manawatū Softball as it has been a few years since Manawatū has participated in that age group at a national level. “After the tourney Israel Nukunuku finalised the selection of the ISA Boys U17 team to Europe (Prague and Copenhagen) in May 2017, based on nominations and performance in tournaments over the last two years”. I was re-selected and named in the 2017 squad! In order to participate & attend, I need to fundraise $4950 in a short few weeks. I’ve been very fortunate to receive a sports funding grant from my iwi Ngāti Toarangatira. This covered the player contribution for nationals, a new catchers glove as well as securing my spot to participate on the Europe tour. A huge mihi of thanks to Ngāti Toarangatira for supporting me. I'm looking forward to the next challenge as this will be a truly outstanding and exciting opportunity to not only compete at that level but to also have a rewarding and life enriching experience.

Ngā mihi, Autumn Karatau – Te Kuru Manawatū vs Hawkes Bay, Tairawhiti & Wellington
