4. Martin Academy Clarification – Lisa Allen offers an academic program called Martin Academy. Within the program we host four streams: Hockey, Baseball, Softball, and Premier. Hockey, Baseball, and Softball were chosen because they are non-sanctioned sports that have high interest in our city. Our goal was to create an integrative, highly-engaging, curricular program for high school students. Our Premier stream is for students who are engaged in Provincial or National sport training programs. These students train during the school day or may miss an excess amount of school due to their schedule. At present, we have Premiere athletes in figure skating, judo, waterpolo, gymnastics, female soccer, diving, Rebels Hockey, tennis, golf, dance, swimming and jujitsu. Acceptance into Martin Academy Program for Hockey, Baseball, or Softball is decided on the following criteria: students must play in the sport and live in Martin catchment area; students play the sport and live in Regina or students who play the sport. These athletes participate in an intense fitness class in the early morning or at lunch and have a shortened day. In the afternoons, students all go out to train with their outside coaches. Our focus on

Premier was to help create balance in the life of these student athletes. By coming to Martin, they have more time available for family, school work, and extra-curricular activities. As a result of the Family of Neighbourhood model along with our new Martin Academy population Martin is happy to report that we have been able to field more sports teams.
