Giant granite boulders lie strewn across the rugged landscape of Arizona’s Sonoran Desert, where Troon North Golf Club combines iconic golf with the visual sensation of desert landscape, providing a standard unmatched in the American Southwest. With immaculately groomed fairways and bentgrass greens, Troon North consistently ranks at the top of every golfer’s North American must-play list. NON-GOLFERS: Today you can relax at your hotel, go shopping, book in for a Spa treatment or discover many of the great local bars and restaurants for a long lunch. ITINERARY DAY 3: SATURDAY 11 FEBRUARY 2023 PLACENAME Attend the Waste Management Phoenix Open at the Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale – 16th Hole Skybox with food and beverage included all day The Phoenix Open is the best attended event in golf; with the 4-day attendance of the tournament usually around 500,000. The most popular hole for spectators to watch is the 16th hole due to the "Amphitheatre" atmosphere of the hole, created by the stands erected every year for the tournament. The hole could be described as "one big party", with many students from the nearby Arizona State University in attendance. Poor shots at the 16th hole receive boos, because the hole is very easy by the PGA's standards. Good shots, however, are cheered for loudly. Famous moments at the 16th include Tiger Woods' hole-in-one in 1997, which caused the gallery to erupt, throwing cups and other objects in celebration, and Justin Leonard giving the finger to the gallery after a poor shot. In 2011 Australian golfer Jarrod Lyle aced the hole, causing the stands to erupt in excitement. See a video of previous Skybox tournaments https://youtu.be/hir8WlYMZAo ITINERARY DAY 4: SUNDAY 12 FEBRUARY 2023 PLACENAME Attend Super Bowl LVII at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, with transfers The Super Bowl is also among the most watched sporting events in the world, drawing an average audience of 111 million viewers! "Super Bowl Sunday" is now considered by some as a de facto American national holiday and is the second-largest day for U.S. food consumption, after Thanksgiving Day. The Super Bowl halftime show is the one of the most-anticipated and most- watched musical events of the year in the US. In the past Beyoncé joined an esteemed list of recent halftime acts that includes Madonna, The Black Eyed Peas, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney and U2. Today at Super Bowl Sunday you will be seated in upper level seating, while these seats may be a fair way from the action it will give you all the taste and action of the “Super Bowl”. If you are a serious NFL fan and want to be closer to the action, upgrades will be available closer to the tour. Alternative Option—Superbowl Party If attending the Superbowl live is not for you, we will be hosting a Superbowl party at one of the local Scottsdale bars including drinks and bar food for the duration of the game. ITINERARY DAY 5: MONDAY 13 FEBRUARY 2023 PLACENAME GOLF: We-Ko-Pa Golf Club - Unlike other Arizona golf courses, there are no homes or condos lining these fairways. At We-Ko-Pa, the Sonoran Desert is your neighbor and the term “high-rise” is either used to describe the ancient saguaros in the foreground or the magnificent mountains in the distance. In fact, the views are so spectacular at We- Ko-Pa that the sound, strategic playing value of the holes could possibly get overlooked. The variety in the routing and pacing of holes will keep all levels of golfers entertained from opening tee shot to final tap-in. The course features an ideal blend of doglegs and straightaway holes, a mix of slender and ample fairways, a balance between benign and rugged green complexes. Yet without exception, the course offers a host of shot-making options and plenty of grassy bail-out areas when the occasional shot gets away. NON-GOLFERS: Today we suggest that you explore the beautiful city of Scottsdale at your leisure or just recover from the Super Bowl! ITINERARY DAY 6: TUESDAY 14 FEBRUARY 2023 PLACENAME Hole No. 9 7,687 yards, Par 73 GOLF: The Stadium Course at TPC Scottsdale - Host of Phoenix Open Today you have a once in a lifetime opportunity to play golf at TPC Scottsdale’s Stadium Course! A TPC Scottsdale forecaddie will also be provided to each group to assist with course knowledge, strategy, as well as help with spotting, and searching. NON-GOLFERS: Today you will experience a Sonoran Desert Jeep / Hummer Off Road Adventure which was Voted "Top 100 Adventure Tours" in America by National Geographic in April 2000. ITINERARY DAY 8—(OPTIONAL LAS VEGAS ADD-ON): THURSDAY 16 FEBRUARY 2023 PLACENAME CASCATA Golf Club GOLF: Shadow Creek Golf Course Perhaps you've never heard tales of this legendary place sculpted from the Nevada desert by renowned architect Tom Fazio. May we assure you, descriptions, however grand, do not begin to do this masterpiece justice. “Shadow Creek must be played. Shadow Creek must be experienced. Only then can true lovers of the game begin to appreciate its breathtaking beauty.” "Leaving Las Vegas’ desert surroundings and entering the forested wilderness that is Shadow Creek is a shock to the senses. No matter how much you may have heard of it… the question that continues to run through your head while experiencing Shadow Creek is, how did it get here?" Tonight enjoy a Farewell dinner and drinks, hosted by Teed Up’s Michael Mosher.

  • TPC Network Turns 40 by John Steinbreder • August 22, 2020
My Account Logout READ THE MAGAZINE MEN’S PRO+ LPGA+ AMATEUR+ COURSE DESIGN+ MORE+ TPC Network Turns 40 By John Steinbreder • August 22, 2020 ith the building of the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass four decades ago, then-PGA W Tour commissioner Deane Beman did more than give the Players Championship a permanent home. Quite inadvertently, he also sowed the seeds of a business operation that today consists of 31 golf facilities and generates hundreds of millions of dollars in annual revenues for the PGA Tour. Called the TPC Network, it currently comprises private, public and daily-fee courses that serve recreational golfers throughout the United States as well as in Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Colombia and Malaysia. Several of those layouts also act as venues for PGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions and Korn Ferry Tour events, such as TPC River Highlands outside Hartford, Connecticut, the home of the Travelers Championship, and TPC Southwind in Memphis, Tennessee, where the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational was held last month. This year’s PGA Championship was staged at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, California, and the first tournament of the 2020 FedEx Cup playoffs, the Northern Trust, is being played this weekend at TPC Boston. That is an impressive collection. Equally as significant is how that division of the tour is thriving as it celebrates its 40th anniversary this year. Designed largely by Pete and Alice Dye with significant impact from Beman, TPC Sawgrass was the first piece of that portfolio when it opened in the fall of 1980. Many industry observers, including a number of his tour professionals, considered it a risky venture.

  • Must-Play Golf Courses in Phoenix/Scottsdale
COURSES AND TRAVEL Must-play golf courses in Phoenix/Scottsdale No. 5 at the Cholla Course at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club Heat seeking golfers have long zeroed in on the Phoenix metropolitan landscape and for good reason. Three hundred thirty days of sunshine. More than 200 courses with unique and dramatic holes set in the desert landscape. Annual PGA, LPGA and Champions Tour events. Award-winning resorts with 36 holes and public facilities among the country's best. But it wasn't always that way. Valley of the Sun resident Tom Weiskopf, architect of many of the region's best layouts, explains the area's evolution as a golf destination. "Thirty years ago when you thought about a vacation to the Phoenix/Scottsdale area, you thought about three things: images of the Wild West mountains, cactus and horses, the Grand Canyon up north, and the good weather. Championship courses weren't part of the package. Today we can compete against any market in the country in terms of the quality of the golf courses and golf experiences." He's right. Few parts the country can match the lineup of quality courses, resorts and culinary options that you will find in the Phoenix and Scottsdale area. January through early April is prime time for golf, with hotel rates and green fees at a peak. The shoulder seasons (November through December; mid-April through May) bring more available tee times and a price break. June through October brings the serious heat but also the lowest prices. BOOK TEE TIMES: Millions of Rounds at Your Finger Tips Troon North (troonnorthgolf.com; $189-$249): Still the king of the Scottsdale public "must-plays" thanks to a pair of courses that dish out cacti, arroyos, rock outcroppings and stunning vistas of Pinnacle Peak and the surrounding mountains.
