Stagg Bowl History .............................................................................. 249 2 3 4 WARHAWK FOOTBALL INFORMATION 5 SEASON RECAP A(nother) Season to Remember 2011 in Review Some might describe 2011 as a dream season. A league record seventh consecutive Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship. Advancing through four rounds of the NCAA III playoffs to a seventh consecutive Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl. Individual honors mounting along with the victory total, now at 14-0. A win streak that has reached 44 games, longest in college football on any level and the fifth longest in NCAA history. But calling it a dream season would be overlooking the two-a-days in Wisconsin‘s humid August, and the cold numbing fingers and toes in a December that Currier and Ives never pictured. It would be overlooking injuries that have taken teammates out of the lineup. It would be overlooking the off-season conditioning sessions that seem to last longer than a Kardashian wedding. You have to look back to August to appreciate what this team has accomplished. The Warhawks approached 2011 with one starter returning in the offensive line, just one in the defensive line, and one linebacker who started in 2010. And opponents knew that bagging a big trophy would look nice above the whirlpools (no fireplace or mantel in most locker rooms). Led by First Team All-WIAC and D3football.com West Region tackle Logan Allemand, the offensive line has allowed just seven sacks this season, and only two in four NCAA playoff games. UW-W has thrown just three picks, and the ground game averages 5.3 yards per attempt. Ditto, the defensive front four. Casey Casper earned all-conference honors as part of a group that gives up 2.8 yards per rush and sacked opposing QB‘s 30 times. With those questions answered everyone prospered. QB Matt Blanchard, making up for lost time in last year‘s playoffs, threw for 23 touchdowns with just three interceptions while ranking among the Division III pass efficiency leaders all season. Running back Levell Coppage found his new convoy (―10-4 good buddy‖) to his liking, becoming the first back in WIAC history to rack up a third 2,000+ season and moving into third place in the NCAA -- all levels, career rushing records. Wide receiver Tyler Huber averages over 16 yards on his 75 catches, with ten touchdowns. Fullback Bernie Tamsett and tight end Jason Ford received mention on the all-conference team, a bow to their blue collar ethic. With Casper and his group were jelling (no, not ―are you jellin‖) the injury Greg Arnold, the only linebacker returning as a starter, suffered may have been a key to the development of Kyle Wismer, Kyle Klotz, Ryan Cortez and Jaren Borland. When Arnold came back he quickly returned to his All-WIAC play. Noah Timm, Ryan Wenkman, Jared Kiesow and others hand the situation in hand in the backfield. The team was helped by the return of placekicker Eric Kindler, the WIAC‘s leading kick scorer, and punter Kris Rosholt, 26 punts inside the 20 and 12 fair catches. The duo could help a struggling offense get some points when a drive bogged down, or give the defense a longer field to defend. If 2011 had been a dream it probably wouldn‘t have included a 14-14 tie with UW-Platteville at the half, or trailing UW-Oshkosh 17-10 at the half, or leading UW-Stevens Point and UW-Eau Claire by a touchdown or less at the half. The development of the 2011 Warhawks is a testament to Lance Leipold‘s philosophy that you approach each practice, each day, each game as a learning moment. Listen, learn, practice and get better in your individual play, and everyone as part of the team benefits. This isn‘t Never Never land (the Peter Pan version, not Michael Jackson), but Salem, Virginia is about as close as it gets in Division III football. 6 STAFF Head Coach: Lance Leipold Alma Mater: UW-Whitewater, 1986 Record at UW- 71-3 (5th year) Whitewater: Contact Information: Phone: 262-472-1453 Fax: 262-472-5691 Email: [email protected] Postal: Lance Leipold Head Football Coach Student Athletic Complex UW-Whitewater Whitewater, WI 53190 Coaching Staff: Brian Borland Defensive Coordinator Steve Dinkel Offensive Coordinator Nelson Edmonds Special Teams Coordinator and Running Backs Coach Kevin Bullis Defensive Run Game Coordinator Jace Rindahl Linebackers Coach Tom Karthausser Defensive Ends Coach Mitch Moore Wide Reciever Coach Josh Gehring Quarterbacks Coach and Pass Game Coordinator Dan Prahl Student Assistant Tim Baldry Assistant Offensive Line/Video Coordinator Kyle Supianoski Student Assistant Matthew McDonnell Video Student Assistant Sam Reed Video Student Assistant Dan Prahl Student Assistant Matt Mcculloch Student Assistant Robbie Ustruck Student Assistant Adam Brandes Student Assistant Alex Wottreng Equipment Student Assistant Kyle Moore Equipment Student Assistant Support Staff: Lee Munger Strength and Conditioning Chad Kelsey Athletic Trainer Courtney Stefanski Athletic Trainer John Betz Facility Maintenance Kayla Moldenhauer Student Administrative Assistant Administrative Staff: Dr. Paul Plinske Athletic Director 262-472-1543 Bob Lanza Assistant Athletic Director and 262-472-3190 Business Manager Amy Edmonds Assistant Athletic Director and 262-472-1138 Compliance and Student Services Tom Fick Sports Information Director 262-472-1147 Kay Bradley Athletic Department Administrative 262-472-4661 Assistant Joy Garlock Laundry Coordinator 7 SCHOOL INFORMATION Founded: 1868 Type: Four-year, co-educational, residential Chancellor: Richard Telfer Enrollment: 11,557 Undergraduates: 9,436 Living Alumni: 72,037 Employees: 1,090 Number of Major Buildings: 40 General Access Computers on Campus: 1,608 Number of Computer Labs on Campus: 45 Library Holdings: 1,946,052 FOOTBALL INFORMATION Colors: Purple and White Nickname: Warhawks (logo is the head of a bird) Conference: Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference National Affiliation: National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Stadium (capacity): Perkins Stadium (11,000), Field Turf 2010 Record 15-0 overall, 10-0 regular season 7-0 WIAC 1st NCAA Division III National Champions WIAC Championships: 1913, 1914, 1922, 1932, 1937, 1940, 1941, 1950, 1959, 1960, 1962, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1974, 1975, 1978, 1980, 1984, 1987, 1988, 1990, 1994, 1997, 1998, 2005, 2006,
