Prayer Intention of the Holy Father, Pope Francis O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick. At the foot of the Cross you participated in Jesus’ pain, with steadfast faith. You, Salvation of the People, know what we need. We are certain that you will provide, so that, as you did at Ca- na of Galilee, joy and feasting might return after this moment of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the Father’s will and to do what Jesus tells us: He who took our sufferings upon Him- self, and bore our sorrows to bring us, through the Cross, to the joy of the Resurrection. We seek refuge under your protection, O Holy Mother of God. Do not despise our pleas – we who are put to the test – and deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen

The Greatest of Gifts: Holy Sacrifice of the Mass

If you would like to have a Mass celebrated for a special intension, on behalf of a someone in great need, a family member, a friend, or a deceased loved one, please contact the office at 713-683-9407 to request a Mass Intention with Catherine Heath. St. John Paul II emphasized the graces that come when a Mass is offered. "The Church believes that she will be heard, for she prays in union with Christ her Head and Spouse, who takes up this plea of His Bride and joins it to His own redemptive sacrifice."

KSHJ AM 1430 Tune into our local Catholic radio station which is a part of the Guadalupe Radio Network, broadcasting many pro- grams from EWTN and Ave Maria Radio. We believe that Our Lady of Guadalupe, who once brought 8 million people into the living streams of Catholicism, can once again bring light into our present darkness! Mother Angelica of Eternal Word Television Network caught our attention by her response to the Holy Father’s invitation to the laity. She challenged her viewers, with a very generous proposal. With resounding certitude Mother would shake her finger into the television camera and say, “If you, the laity, will buy a radio station, I will give you the programming free.” With the inspiration from Pope St. John Paul II and Mother Angelica, La Promesa Foundation continued in “Keeping the Prom- ise” through the development of Guadalupe Radio Network.

Laetare Sunday

With the Fourth Sunday in Lent, we come to the half-way mark of the season, and we exult that Easter draws nigh. The first word of the Introit for this Sunday’s Mass gives the day its name and sets the mood: Laetare! “Rejoice ye with Jerusalem; and be ye glad for her.” On this day, as on Gaudete Sunday in the middle of , the Church offers a respite from penitential aus- terity: a touch of festive white mixes with the season’s violet to give us the special rose-colored vestments, altar frontal, and hangings; the music has a bit more bounce in it; and roses adorn the sanctuary.

Not coincidentally, the Fourth Sunday in Lent was once commonly called “” or “.” In England, from the Middle Ages through the seventeenth century, the liturgical themes of respite and consolation were put into practice on this day when appren- tices and young people “in service” were granted a mid-Lent holiday to return home and visit their mothers (as well as the “mother church” where they were baptized). On this festive occa- sion--the original “Mother's Day”--the Lenten fast was relaxed and young folk offered their par- ents a present of “simnel cakes,” baked with fine flour, sugar, and fruit, and their parents gave them in turn “frumenty,” a dish of hulled wheat boiled in milk and seasoned with cinnamon and sugar.

Next Sunday, the fifth in Lent, begins Passiontide, the name designating the fortnight before Easter and the period that ushers in Holy Week and the Sacred Triduum. This time calls us to meditate more intensely on Christ’s sufferings. According to the Ordinariate Missal and Roman tradition, this Sunday is called Passion Sunday or “the First Sunday in Passiontide,” followed a week later by Palm Sunday which is “the Second Sunday in Passiontide.” The modern Roman Rite combines the two Sundays and gives us at the beginning of Holy Week “Palm Sunday of the Passion.” In traditional Catholic usage, the last two weeks of Lent see the veiling of crosses and images and the Gloria Patri disappears from the Introit at Mass and from the Divine Office until Easter. At Our Lady of Walsingham, we follow the old English custom of marking the begin- ning of Passiontide with the Litany sung in procession at the principal Mass, just as we did for the first Sunday in Lent.

The Mysteries of the Rosary for our Time of Need

The Joyful Mysteries 1. The Annunciation: During this time of challenge and uncertainty, we pray for the grace that like Our Lady, we may consent to God’s will in our lives, surrendering control to Divine Providence.

2. The Visitation: As we experience limits on our visits to loved ones, the sick, and the elderly, we pray for the grace to “visit” others by our prayers and sacrifices for them. 3. The Nativity of Our Lord: Thinking of Our Lord’s birth in poverty, we pray for the poor who are affect- ed by the circumstances of this pandemic, and we beg God’s mercy upon their need.

4. The Presentation in the Temple: As we meditate on the mystery of the Holy Family’s obedience to the law, we ask for the grace to offer our lives and circumstances entirely to God in obedience. 5. The Finding of Jesus in the Temple: We pray for the grace to find Jesus in the midst of the changes, disap- pointments, heartaches, and sufferings of this pandemic.

The Luminous Mysteries 1. The Baptism in the Jordan: In this mystery, Christ was fully revealed as the beloved Son of the Father. In the midst of these challenging days, we pray for the grace to know our belovedness through our own bap- tism.

2. The Wedding Feast at Cana: At Cana, Christ blessed a wedding feast with the gift of new wine. We pray for the strengthening of marriages and families during the stress of these days.

3. The Proclamation of the Kingdom of God: Hearing the Gospel heals and brings grace. As we meditate on this mystery, we pray for the grace of deeper union with Christ through the scriptures.

4. The Transfiguration: On Mount Tabor, Our Lord was transfigured before Peter, James, and John. We pray for the grace to see Christ in our daily circumstances, and to know that His grace is abundant in suffer- ing and trial.

5. The Institution of the Eucharist: We pray for a greater devotion to the Most Holy Eucharist among all Catholics, and for the grace of spiritual communion with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.

The Sorrowful Mysteries 1. The Agony in the Garden: As we think of Our Lord’s agony and suffering in Gethsemane, we pray for an increase in compassion and patience as we submit to God’s holy will.

2. The Scourging at the Pillar: We pray for those who are sick with COVID-19 and for their swift and com- plete recovery.

3. The Crowning with Thorns: Meditating on the sufferings of Christ’s head crowned with thorns, we pray for all of those who are worried, anxious, or depressed as a result of the pandemic.

4. The Carrying of the Cross: Christ embraced the cross as the price of our salvation and left us an example to follow (1 Peter 2:21). We pray for the grace to embrace our cross and suffer with Christ.

5. The Crucifixion: As we meditate on the death of Christ, a death of love for the salvation of all, we pray for those who have died from COVID-19.

The Glorious Mysteries The Resurrection: In the light of the Resurrection of Jesus from the grave, we see all things made new. We pray for the grace to see God’s love in all situations, circumstances, and sufferings.

The Ascension: Meditating on Christ’s risen Body we pray for all medical professionals and healthcare workers during this time of pandemic.

The Descent of the Holy Spirit: We pray for the Holy Spirit’s guidance of our world, national, and local leaders as they make decisions for the common good.

The Assumption of Our Lady: Thinking of Our Lady’s Assumption, body and soul into heaven, we entrust our lives to her maternal love, begging for her intercession throughout this time of pandemic.

The Crowning of Mary as Queen: Mary’s Queenship means that she continues to conquer evil by the grace of her Son. We ask Our Lady to obtain the end of this pandemic.
