Venter to Face Elvis Moyo Venter to face Elvis Moyo 23/07/2013 | Bongani Magasela DANIE "Tshwane Tornado" Venter will be involved in a tough warm-up fight against Elvis "Bulawayo Bomber" Moyo at Pretoria North City Hall on Saturday night. Venter will meet Elvis Moyo in a warm-up fight at Pretoria North City Hall on Saturday night PHOTO: ANTONIO MUCHAVE Moyo is the South Africa-based Zimbabwean who raised eyebrows when he drew with former South African heavyweight champion Osborne Machimana over six rounds in March. Venter and Moyo will meet over six rounds in the heavyweight division, promoter Peter de Wet announced yesterday. He said the fight would be a preparatory one for Venter before he takes on Sean Cox from Barbados for the vacant WBF cruiserweight title in Pretoria on September 21. De Wet said his Real Steel Promotion would stage that fight. He added that current national cruiserweight champion Daniel Bruwer will oppose Georgian Levan Jomardashvilli for the vacant WBF International title, while Kaizer Mabuza will be involved in a WBF All Africa welterweight title fight against an opponent yet to be confirmed. "We want to bring boxing back full blast in Pretoria, which has had many champions in the past," said De Wet. "So defeat is not an option for Danie against Elvis, and he knows it." De Wet co-owns the newly formed boxing promotion company with Andre Thysse and Anton de Hass. The three musketeers' 10-bout card on Saturday night will be a box-and-dine affair. Venter and Moyo will top that bill. Venter told Times Media yesterday that he saw Moyo against Flo Simba, but that was three years ago. Simba beat Moyo on points over six rounds. "I can't say much about him based on that fight, but I've been warned that he has improved. "I will take our fight round per round," said Venter. Meanwhile, Kevin Lerena will be up against Khayeni Hlungwane in the cruiserweight class over six rounds. Hlungwane boasts a first-round knockout win over Ilunga Makabu. Also to feature on the bill is Marcel Botha - the son of Francois "White Buffalo" Botha - who will take on William Bankisi in the junior-middle- weight. Botha fought his first fight in Australia, where he impressively outpointed Jeremy Sebastian over four rounds last month. .

Nadiya Savchenko, who has been in Russian custody since mid-June 2014 when she was captured in the war zone in Ukraine, is awaiting trial on charges of complicity in the killing of two Russian journalists during the conflict. She denies the charges and has spent 83 days on a hunger strike to protest her detention. Her mother, Maria Savchenko, 78, told the Associated Press on April 20 that Nadiya is a political prisoner. Mrs. Savchenko said Russian prosecutors have showed “no evi- dence” that her daughter provided guidance for a mortar attack that killed two Russian state TV journalists at a checkpoint in east- ern Ukraine, as Moscow claims. Mrs. Savchenko launched her global Vladislav Musienko/ UNIAN campaign in Germany, where she pleaded Anastasiya Terentyeva Artem Sytnyk, a 35-year-old former investigator for the Kyiv Oblast prosecutor’s for help from lawmakers and wrote to Maria Savchenko at a New York City office, was named on April 16 to head the newly created National Anti-Corruption Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The annual carnival, the second of its kind, is designed to raise awareness and directly assist indigent community members. Each attendee at the carnival, hosted for the first time at the Norwood Mall in Johannesburg, needed to bring two non-perishable food items, like rice, cereals, sugar, tea, coffee, oil or canned foods, to gain access to the kaleidoscope of fun-filled carnival activities. The idea of the carnival evolved out of the encouraged month-long participation of Jewish nursery schools in the Greater Johannesburg area. But it’s not only about the carnival. The collecting of non-perishable foods for the hundreds of families in the province unable to afford them, is an initiative practised all year round. Its next highlight will be Shavuot, when bikkurim items will fill Yad Aharon’s coffers, after the chag.
