CENTRAL RESERVE POLICE FORCE (Ministry of Home Affairs) 1 PPMG AND 43 PMsG AWARDED TO CENTRAL RESERVE POLICE FORCE On the occasion of Independence Day, the largest paramilitary force has yet again been decorated with the highest Gallantry Medals among police forces. It has been awarded with 44 gallantry medals, one of them being President’s Police Medal for Gallantry (PPMG) and 43 Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) of which 10 are posthumous. The Force which is extensively deployed in the major conflict theatres, has been awarded the bulk of the gallantry medals for exhibiting raw courage and extraordinary deeds of Inspector valour in the most trying and difficult Gulam Nabi Bhat terrains of the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected states. While 41 officers and men awarded are posted in LWE areas, the remaining three are posted in strife prone J&K.

The lone recipient of PPMG, Inspector Gulam Nabi Bhat posted Shaheed in 23 Battalion, Srinagar, J&K displayed conspicuous gallantry Md. Nehal Alam, Dy. Comdt. and exemplary courage under adversity and eliminated two militants who were holed up in a house and had taken the inmates hostage in Soura area of Srinagar city in April 2014. Shaheed Shri Md. Nehal Alam, Dy. Comdt. of 219 Battalion decorated with PMG posthumously exhibited raw courage, unflinching determination and high degree of professionalism while leading his men in an operation in the naxal bastion of Sukma district in South Bastar, Chhattisgarh. When entrapped in an ambush laid by the maoists, he succeeded in not only countering the ambush but he along with PMG recipient Constable Adit Kumar eliminated a dreaded maoist, besides inflicting severe injuries to others, through superior tactics and presence of mind. However, in another operation in Sukma district, he came under severe impact of an IED blast and made the supreme sacrifice for the cause of the Nation. Eight other brave troopers also have been honoured with PMsG posthumously for displaying raw grit and unwavering determination in the face of heavy odds in an operation against maoists in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

CRPF is the most decorated Central Armed Police Force with 1570 medals, which includes 01 George Cross, 03 King’s PMG, 01 Ashok Chakra, 01 , 01 , 01 , 14 Shaurya Chakras, 49 PPFSMG, 192 PPMG, 1 , 5 , 4 Vishist Seva Medal, 1189 PMG, 5 IPMG, 3 and 100 PM’s Police Medal for Life Saving. 2052 brave officers and men have been martyred since its formation in 1939, the highest by far for any Central Armed Police Force

CRPF has been also conferred with 05 President’s Police Medal For Distinguished Service and 58 Police Medal For Meritorious Service.
