Preliminary Itinerary (subject to amendment)

Day 1 – Wednesday, February 24, 2009 Oaxaca/Mexico City • Take an independent flight that departs Oaxaca at 12:05 p.m. and arrives in Mexico City at about 1:00 p.m. • Enjoy a box lunch as you drive to the city’s beautiful Chapultepec Park to visit Mexico City’s world-famous Anthropology Museum where you will learn about the amazing mélange of civilizations that shape modern Mexican identity. • Check into the beautiful Sheraton, a five-star hotel located on the alameda with one of the finest restaurants in Mexico City. • The evening is independent. Day 2 – Thursday, February 25, 2009 Mexico City • Begin the day with a lecture on the Mexican Muralist Tradition, followed by a morning tour of Mexico City’s great Modernist murals. • Stop at the Palacio Nacional to view ’s sweeping look at Mexican history. • Take in the impressive zócalo and the majestic cathedral before continuing to the Colegio de San Ildefonso to examine more masterful murals by Orozco. • Following lunch in one of Mexico City’s most popular restaurants, have a guided tour of the recently opened Popular Arts Museum within close walking distance of the hotel. • Stop in the Museo de Bellas Artes to witness extraordinary Belle Époque architecture and more outstanding murals by Orozco, Siqueiros, and Rivera. • Dinner is independent. Day 3 – Friday, February 26, 2009 Southern Mexico City • This morning, visit the Dolores Olmedo Museum, with its superior private collection of works by Kahlo and Rivera.

• Explore Kahlo’s much-loved Blue House, which so reflects the artist’s vitality and originality. View many of her works, and works that she collected. The home is a treasure trove of popular Mexican art. • Enjoy an independent lunch in Coyoacan. • Continue to the Museo Estudio Diego Rivera, the former home of Rivera and Kahlo, designed by his contemporary Juan O’Gorman. Many Rivera paintings are on display in his original studio. • Bid adiós to Mexico during a farewell dinner celebration. (B, D) Sheraton or comparable hotel property

Day 4 – Saturday, February 27, 2009 Mexico City/U.S. • Take taxis to the Mexico City airport for independent flights back to the United States. (B, appropriate in-flight meals)
