  • The Streets of Adelaide Await.. GB Galvanizing M Motorsport Preview Rnd#2 Australian GT Championship Presented by Pirelli (Clipsal, Adelaide SA) 26 February, 2013
The streets of Adelaide await.. GB Galvanizing M Motorsport Preview Rnd#2 Australian GT Championship presented by Pirelli (Clipsal, Adelaide SA) 26 February, 2013 After an outstanding debut to his 2013 national GT campaign, dual Victorian Sportscar State Champion Justin McMillan heads to round two of the Australian GT Championship presented by Pirelli, on the daunting streets of Adelaide, but as he showed during round one at Bathurst, he’s not daunted by the big stage.. “There’s no denying that there was some level of trepidation heading to Bathurst for the first time, but we went with an experienced crew, with two experienced drivers, and the goal of completing laps,” McMillan admitted. “In the end we achieved what we set out to achieve, and came out of Bathurst placed fifth in the championship heading to Adelaide, but where I had Richo [Steven Richards] and Ross [Lilley] to pace myself against there, I’m on my own in Adelaide, and I can’t wait..!” From opening practice at Mount Panorama the GB Galvanizing Gallardo LP600 was quick, and for experienced Bathurst veteran Steven Richards, he was impressed by McMillan’s pace, but also his eagerness to listen and learn. “Justin drove brilliantly all weekend,” the new AGT DSO [driving standards observer] agreed. “He paced himself early and got quicker and quicker as the weekend wore on. Had we not suffered the gearbox issue, we could well have been inside the top five, so to debut that way, and come away from an event that was as difficult to negotiate as any I’ve ever contested with a straight car, was an almost perfect result.” Justin’s debut on the streets of Adelaide won’t be the M Motorsport teams only debut for the weekend, with new partners Interlloy Engineering Steels and Alloys and FUCHS Lubricants joining existing supporters GB Galvanizing, Strategy One Human Resources and Australian Post Tensioning for the first time at Clipsal.

  • MGA and MGB: Aussie Doctor and the World's Fastest ‘Super Bee’
MGA and MGB: Aussie doctor and the world's fastest ‘Super Bee’ 27 September 2018 By MarkOastler Doctor Iain Corness and the ‘Super Bee’ were a potent combination, reaching the peak of their performance in 1971. Here they’re in full flight at Sydney’s Warwick Farm in 1970. Love the decal on the windshield, which reads 'The Civilised Sports Car' - it was anything but civilised by the time Corness had finished with it! The MGA and MGB were the ultimate in MG sports cars during the halcyon days of Australian production sports car racing (ProdSports) in the 1950s and 1960s. In fact, at one stage it was claimed that a locally-developed MGB was the fastest Prodsports MGB in the world. That bold statement, by none other than parent company British Leyland, was in 1971 when Queensland doctor Iain Corness and his hand-built ‘Super Bee’ were part of the company’s factory-backed racing team called the British Leyland Young Lions. In reality, Leyland’s claim would have been difficult to authenticate, given that Australia was little more than an international backwater at the time and MGBs were competing successfully in other much larger markets including the UK and USA. Even so, by 1971 the Super Bee was more highly developed than even factory-backed MGBs competing in the UK, given that it was equipped with a unique locally developed DOHC engine. And after several seasons it was continuing to set new lap records, with one remaining unbeaten for eight years. On some tracks it was recording similar times to the top V8 Mustang touring cars of its day.

  • N Views from the Group | December 2016
NEWS ‘N VIEWS FROM THE GROUP | DECEMBER 2016 CHAIRMAN UPDATE I’m sure you’re all interested in how our branches coped during the recent earthquakes, and it’s pleasing to report there was only minor damage to our Blenheim and Lower Hutt stores. Fortunately the main initial shake was at night, so all our staff were safe and are coping well, and both branches have since undergone engineering assessments and are back trading. The Plumbing World team are now working hard with our suppliers and freight companies to ensure we have the minimum of disruption while the country deals with a very sad and battered Kaikoura region, and our thoughts go out to everyone who has been affected. On a more positive note, thank you to all those who joined our results update webinar on 24 November, and it was a great opportunity to further share the details of both the improved financial performance, and the progress the NZPM co-op has made in the first half of the financial year. Our forecast for the second half of the year remains positive, so it’s great to see the initiatives that we’ve been implementing over the last 12-18 months are bearing fruit. This was our first webinar with shareholders, so we’d be delighted to receive your feedback on this format of communication with members. As I’ve mentioned in recent Connector articles, both the board and our executive team want to know how best to communicate with you, so any suggestions you have will be appreciated.

  • ASMMR Newsletter Vol 2 Issue 4
Volume 2, Issue 4 May 2010 The Australasian Society for Motorsports Medicine and Rescue Contents Race control Clinical review Recent race results Worldwide motorsport update Caught by the cameras Race control Welcome to the May edition of the ASMMR newsletter. The various racing categories are moving on a pace and there is plenty to talk about in the world of motorsport medicine and rescue. This issue takes a look at some track safety devices; namely the run-off areas and gravel traps – the pros, the cons and the downright scary. There is a review of recent race events and a few highlights from other aspects of motorsporting news. If you have ever wanted to know what a tank slapper, a lambda reading or reactive suspension was, then skip to the Wikipedia motorsports terminology link. Good luck. Matthew Mac Partlin Technical review Track safety devices – Run-offs and gravel traps Competitors and race vehicles can be fully prepared with safety equipment, but at some point or other a vehicle will unintentionally veer off the track. Sometimes the driver will be able to gather it up and rejoin the race, if there is sufficient space to do so. However, there is often a conflict between race track safety, spectator friendliness and geography. The safest track would probably be a straight road, with a wide run-off to either side and at either end and have no more Copyright Matthew Mac Partlin, 2010 Page 1 of 9 than a couple of cars competing on it at any one time. But it wouldn’t be terribly interesting to compete in or to watch.

  • Erebus Motorsport Enters V8 Supercar Championship
September 19 2012 EREBUS MOTORSPORT ON THE V8 SUPERCAR GRID IN 2013 - Erebus Motorsport and Stone Brothers Racing form new super alliance - The team to field three V8 Supercars from 2013 series commencement - Erebus Motorsport joins the grid through an AMG Customer Sports Program from 2013 - Stone Brothers Racing ends association with Ford V8 Supercars’ longest serving team Stone Brothers Racing will merge with Erebus Motorsport to run three AMG E Class V8 Supercars in the Championship from 2013. The agreement, which has been almost a year in the making since its initial concept in early 2011, is a reality with the newly formed team operating under a Customer Sports Program of AMG. The announcement was made in Melbourne today by Stone Brothers Racing owner Ross Stone, Erebus Motorsport owner Betty Klimenko, Erebus Motorsport CEO Ryan Maddison and V8 Supercar Chairman Tony Cochrane. Erebus Motorsport has been dominant in the Australian GT category with Mercedes-AMG’s SLS AMG GT3 race car. Stone Brothers Racing this morning announced it will be ending its partnership with Ford after a relationship that began when the team was first formed in 1998 and won three Championships with Marcos Ambrose and Russell Ingall. The amicable split paved the way for the Erebus merger. “Since SBR’s inception in 1998 Ford has backed the team and together we have enjoyed many successes including three Championship wins - two with Marcos Ambrose in 2003 and 2004, and again with Russell Ingall in 2005. We also won Bathurst with Jason Bright and Steven Richards in 1998,” Stone said.
