2 From the Committee

Weston Creek Molonglo junior Cricket Club WCMCC is a proud community club that continues to provide an opportunity to kids to play cricket. We have done a great job fielding teams. This season WCMCC has been fortunate to field teams in almost all age groups from U10s through to U18s Colts plus girls only teams in Cup and Plate competitions. All our 143 players look great in their green WCMCC shirts. #GoodToBeGreen We have done a great job supporting our teams. We can only field teams with the support and dedication of our coaches and their band of helpers each week. Please make sure you take the time to thank your coach and all those who have helped the team throughout the season. I am very thankful to all match day supporters who each week are giving our kids a cricket experience. We appreciate your help in the form of scoring, managing a team, assisting with warms ups and throw downs, setting up shade shelters and umpiring, providing a positive atmosphere for our kids to play. Thank you for your continued support and participation. Cricket ACT presented to all our grand final teams in March, there were great displays of team and individual achievement. Our very own Liz Coper-Jones in our U14/1 team was awarded the Female Junior Player of the year – well done Liz! This is a wonderful recognition of your hard work and effort throughout the season. Here she is with two other WCMCC award winners, Julia Bassett POTW and Grace Lyons Encouragement Award.

Julia Bassett, Elizabeth Coper-Jones and Grace Lyons

All teams have done a great job to field teams week in, week out. I would like to give a shout out to the committee who have ensured we have teams registered, T20Blast and In2Cricket run, uniforms ready, grounds for training, equipment, collated results and we are prepared for presentation day. With many helpers it is light work. Enormous thanks this season goes to Stacey, Debi, Paul, Jerry, Guru, Tony and Charandeep. Time to take a short rest before winter sport/activities set in!

WCMCC juniors have had some great success over the season. Success can be: - fielding a team to play each week, - the team had lots of fun and will come back next season, - all the players developed lots, and/or - the team made a final. 3 We need to celebrate the teams that fielded teams every week and had fun as much as the teams that made finals. Some teams made finals but were unlucky in matches that could have gone either way. When you look through this yearbook you will find many great examples of team work and individual effort for their team. WCMCC is a big supporter of the ‘Spirit of Cricket’ and developing good sporting behaviour is equally important as developing a good cover drive. The great thing about cricket is its unique way to bring a group of players together. If they play as a team and for the team, this will lead to great achievements and effort throughout the season. There are many examples of this in the pages to follow.

U12/2 Grand finalists and recipients of the Tuggeranong Valley Lions Shield, CACT Presentation. I have been privileged to hear great stories of achievement from all our teams this season. Our kids who scored their first 4 or bowled their first wicket to those who retired on maximum runs, players who stepped up and opened the bowling for the team for the first time, or wicket kept to the best bowlers, your achievements have not gone unnoticed. For all the kids who stopped a four in the field, took a catch or helped with a run out, remember that time and see if you can do it again next season! WCMCC celebrate runs scored and wickets taken, the Club rewards those in each team. In addition we have Coaches’ award and Players Player for our older teams to recognise all the values which contribute to success. Each year your tally increases with each run and wicket and we recognise these milestones throughout the junior cricket years. Congratulations to all our players and those receiving milestone awards this season. Congratulations to our Junior teams who made finals this season. U12/1, U14/1 semi finalists, TJCL Girls U17 Cup and U16/2 T20 runners up and champion teams U12/2 and U16/2 2Day. Well done to all. For those who reached their final year playing junior cricket we wish you well in your future cricket adventures. Our Junior Club has a great partnership with the Senior Club who offer further opportunities to play grade cricket next season for boys and girls. Opportunities exist for those who are looking to get back into cricket after time out of the game. WCMCC support In2Cricket and T20Blast with centres run from our 1st Grade Oval at Stirling. This season we had 51 In2Cricketers and 88 T20Blasters. We hope to see these cricketers join our Junior teams in the seasons to follow.

4 OUR CLUB: Like all community Clubs, we are here for you and we need you to help us continue to be a great part of cricket in our community. The Weston Creek Molonglo Junior Cricket Club (WCMCC) Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at the Raiders Weston Club, in the Loft room, on Wednesday 27 June, 2018 from 7pm. Everyone is invited to attend and encouraged to take up a position on our committee. Several committee positions will be vacant next season, including Registrar and Chair. Junior cricket, along with many local sporting clubs have moved online, streamlining many of the roles of committee members. Without new volunteers joining the committee, the committee will not be able to continue to offer the same amount of assistance to parents as we have during this and previous seasons. Some of our committee hold dual roles and we need extra support to ensure our Club can operate. There is something for everyone, big or small. Now is a great time to get involved. WCMCC is a strong supporter of girls’ cricket. We have girls playing in both female teams and mixed teams. All players benefit from a diverse team and we have seen this trend follow suit to other local Clubs in the past season. It is great to see WCMCC continue to drive these opportunities in our junior teams. In my role as Girls co-ordinator, I continue to work with CACT and other Clubs to ensure we have good options for all our cricketers. This season I have been to several of our TJCL Plate and TJCL Cup matches. Always played in good spirit and I encourage all girls who are interested in playing cricket to give it a go. The picture below is a favourite and look at the smiles!

TJCL Plate team We will open our registrations for next season in July / August this year. We look forward to seeing all our players back in green again next year. 5 Under 10 Stars

The Stars started off the season a bit slowly, most players having graduated for T20 Blast, it took a few games to get the format and gel as team. It was possibly the introduction of Assistant Coach, Bryce Lloyd, that was the catalyst for our improvement, but improve we did! I was so proud of the teams development over the season, their work (and a lot of fun) at our training sessions, and their great passion for the game as well as the spirit in which it should be played. I would just like to shout out to the parents/grand-parents and team supporters who pitched in and helped every week, whether it be providing snacks for the team, square leg umpiring duty, taxi duties for our players, or just entertaining the players and their siblings – thanks heaps. To our illustrious scorer – James Hewitt, thanks heaps for the unenviable task, ably assisted by Megan Rice. Again to my assistant, Bryce Lloyd, thanks for taking the reins every time I was unavailable, it was greatly appreciated. Well done Stars, we had a great time this year! Archer Brown. The Spiritual leader of the Stars, Archie improved dramatically over the year, he was always full of energy and had a smile on his face, his 15 run innings in our last game was a stand-out, I can’t wait to watch your career. Jed Bourke. A very consistent year, his love for the game is omnipresent, and his care for his teammates is clear, a great all-rounder for the Stars. Jed would play cricket with his mates everyday if he was allowed. William Cains. A great year of improvement for Will, did well to fit into a strong group who knew each other from school, always found the lighter side of the game, but worked hard at training to get his skill levels up to a standard where he was a good contributor. Well done Will Isabella Hewitt. Such a coachable player, Izzy had become such an important player for us by the end of the year, her ability to hit 2 runs off the last ball to win us a game late in the season highlighted her importance, possibly the best wicket keeper we had this season. Campbell Lloyd. The first of our “Bash Brothers”, Campbell had great power in his shots and was able to hit boundaries with ease, worked so hard on his bowling throughout the season and showed great all round ability by the end on the year. Jacob Lloyd. Started to make some consistent runs for us by the end of the season, but it was the improvement of his bowling through the season that was the highlight. His 5 wickets for 6 runs was an outstanding day at the office. Charlie Rice. Another good performer with the bat for us, Charlie also started to score consistently for the Stars by the end of the season, His improvement in his bowling could only be attributed to the work he did at training each week. Isaac Scarano. The second of our “Bash Brothers” Isaac’s power hitting this season was something to behold, his swashbuckling 15 equaled our highest score for the year, Isaacs bowling continually improved throughout the season. Jared Wilson. The pace bowler of our team, Jared’s bowling figures this year did not do him justice, but his was always consistent and a pleasure watch, he always ended in the top 2 or 3 scores for us each game. Well done Jared.

7 Under 10 Heat

The U10 Heat Team had a fantastic season. From the moment the season started, the team had to get to know each other as none had played together before. This didn’t take long at all, and they were quickly enjoying fun games of cricket. Everyone developed their games, and improved their all-round cricket skills every week. Each player rotated through the wicket-keeper’s position roughly every three games, every player had the chance to open the bowling and the batting. By the end of the season they had sorted out calling for runs, and had left many opposition batsmen (and coaches) confused by excellent bowling efforts. Near the end of the season there were a few injuries, but the team saw it through. Just. To top of the season, the team fought out a thrilling tied game in the final round, equalling the scores on the last ball of the game. It was a terrific way to finish a great season. Jake Handel. Jake was the teams go to spin king. He was always trying to improve the flight of the ball to maximise the turn that he got, which was not an easy thing to do with the types of balls used. Of course, trying to improve the flight often meant that the opposition batsmen occasionally took hold of the odd ball or two. Jakes response was usually to rip down a medium pace ball when they least expected it, and this often resulted in a wicket. With the bat Jake continuously improved through the season, top scoring with 37 and gaining the batting award for the season (209 runs), despite a late season injury. Through the season Jake struck 25 fours and one six. Matheesha Rajapakse. Matheesha had a great consistent season. His bowling was accurate and he was very economical. With best bowling of 4/4 his season was great fun to watch. Over the season Matheesha gained confidence with the bat, and scored well. A late season injury hampered his efforts in the last few games, but Matheesha tried not to let this stop him. Matheesha performed very well in the field providing some entertainment with some brilliant run-outs. Ryan Mukherjee. Ryan had a consistent season with the bat and started to score well towards the end of the season. He was always keen for a run, and occasionally this challenged his partners, though the whole team got used to it. With the ball Ryan had a great season averaging two wickets per game to end up with the bowling award. Ryan was also a great contributor in the field with six direct hit run-outs through the season. Jack Miels-Barrett. Jack was the team all rounder, and the big hitter of the team. He equal top scored for the year with 37, and over the season he scored 22 fours and six sixes. The season total for Jack was 205 runs which was a fantastic effort. With the ball, Jack had many devastating spells including an over of 4/0 (including a hat trick). His bowling often left opposition batsmen (and coaches) stunned. Oliver Haines. Oliver had a great season, improving with both the ball and the bat over the summer. Oliver was always considerate of his team mates, and the opposition players and played the game with great spirit. Oliver was handy with the ball with best bowling of 3/18, and he had a good consistent season with the bat. Gabriel Louis. Gabriel played well throughout the season, and was instrumental in the thrilling tied game at the end of the season, hitting the run that tied the game on the last ball. Gabriel was really enthusiastic in his approach to the game, and contributed very well in the field. He also contributed well with the ball and had best bowling of 3/5.

9 Under 11 Division 1

The U11 Div 1 team had a thoroughly enjoyable season of cricket. The boys were enthusiastic and the improvements during the season were incredible to watch.

Jarrah Lancarter. Jarrah was one of the big hitters of the team, smashing some mighty shots during the season. His running between wickets was another highlight, putting huge pressure on the fielding side as he stole sneaky runs at every opportunity.

Angus Sheppard. Angus had an outstanding season. Despite being one of the youngest in the team and starting the season with an injury, he was often the one that rallied the team when their energy was flagging. Often volunteering as the team wicketkeeper, he took a number of great catches through the season and saved the team many runs behind the stumps. He also bowled accurate medium pacers that often frustrated batsmen into poor shots.

Henry Hekimian. Henry saw a big improvement in his game as the season progressed, particularly in the field. His highlight for the season was undoubtedly the two catches he took in the deep in the final game. Henry’s bowling game gained greater accuracy in the back end of the season, especially when bowling around the wicket.

Dylan Shillington. Dylan was the teams all rounder, always taking wickets with the ball in hand and often amassing impressive totals (including a number of big sixes) with the bat. In the field he constantly menaced the batsmen, threatening to smash down their stumps if they didn’t make good ground between the wickets.

Ishaan Khan. Ishaan terrified opposition teams with his express pace. When coming off the long run it was an impressive sight watching him steam in and bowl at a pace rarely seen in that age group. He was also a handy batsman who clearly enjoyed belting the ball to the boundary.

Jimmy Roberts. The team was very fortunate to have Jimmy in the playing group. He is a determined cricketer who is the early stages of a developing legspinner. He took a number excellent wickets as a result of real movement off the pitch and his deceptive flight. As an excellent runner between wickets when batting, he was the guy everyone wanted at the other end when batting.

Sebastien Murphy. Sebastien was a delight to have in the team with his positive and determined attitude. He loved his batting and his improvement throughout the season was impressive. Seb rarely missed a training and always put in 1oo%.

Congratulations to all members of the team. Every member of the team improved significantly throughout the season and they will all be an asset to any team next year.

The Stars showed promise early – quickly bonding as a team at the first practice and our first game. The team performed very well and won more matches than they lost which is something to be proud of considering that this was the first season for a number of players. The boys showed great energy, were enthusiastic and improved at every game during the season. Many thanks to the families for their support, particularly whenever a scorer or umpire was needed on match day to fill in when Merrilyn or Thomas were not available.

Alex Donaldson. Alex is a great all-rounder who was very reliable when bowling and demonstrated a high level of skill with the bat. Though Alex could score quickly, he also placed a very high value on his wicket when batting resulting in him only getting out a handful of times through the season. Alex was also quick in the field and a reliable wicket keeper. Oscar McIntosh. Oscar is our handy left hander who was always capable of surprising the opposition with both the bat and the ball. Oscar was consistently menacing in the field being involved in many a run-out and stopping many singles being taken. His batting technique developed over the season culminating in a fantastic last innings that his team mates will not soon forget. Mahran Mamun. Mahran is our standout wicket keeper who demonstrated a high level of focus behind the stumps. Hardly a ball would get past him regardless of the bowler or how hard a fielder would return the ball. Muhran developed significantly through the year with his batting and bowling skills. The team appreciated his contribution. James Mansfield. James is the player who would put up his hand for any role in the team and was consistently the quickest to ask if he could open the batting or bowling. James could switch between medium pace and spin and could hold his accuracy with the ball throughout the game. James’ batting progressed through the year as well with much fewer dismissals in the latter parts of the season. Andrew Sparks. Andrew is a real quiet achiever and thinker throughout the season whose bowling consistency made a difference to the team. Andrew’s batting skills showed consistent improvement as the year progressed whether through holding the crease against an aggressive bowler, or being prepared to try and put away the wayward balls. Max Swoboda. Max is a great all-rounder who could be relied on to bowl accurately and restrict the opposition’s ability to score. His batting progressed through the season with running between wickets and wanting to push for the single at every opportunity being a highlight, putting huge pressure on the fielding side as he stole sneaky runs. Max was also very handy behind the stumps. Ethan Wright. Ethan is a great team player whose energy made him a true asset to the team. Ethan really took it to the opposition with his consistently accurate, menacing bowling and his confidence with the ball. Ethan provided his team mates with consistent support and positive energy in every role. A promising future cricketer to watch!

Under 12 Division 1 Warriors

A terrific season for a new team, it was fantastic watching the boys form new friendships from the first training session and have a lot of fun every weekend. They were also a formidable unit, scoring the most team runs in the comp and taking the most wickets. Unfortunately the semi-final did not go our way, but the boys gave it their all and should be proud of their season. Thanks to Sehaj and Oscar for filling in for us during the season. A huge thank you to Jacob for managing the team (and me) this year – also to our many umpires, scorers and supporters - match day would be impossible without your support. Special thanks also to Guru (the clubs's age co-ordinator) and all of the other committee members and helpers who dedicate so much time behind the scenes to make it all possible. Adithya Gopinathan. Another great season for Adi, who anchored the batting for the majority of the season and also developed into a very handy keeper as well. Enjoyed playing Marist scoring nearly 100 runs across those three games, and great to see all of his hard work resulting in his selection in the emerging Comets squad. Aarya Gururaj. Worked hard on his batting and really improved his running between the wickets. With his inspiring chants echoing around the ground, he also bowled very well (even if I wouldn’t let him bowl bouncers) highlighted by his fantastic last over to win the Super Sixes tournament. Cian Hickey. Terrific season with the ball finishing as the team’s leading wicket taker and a very safe set of hands in the field. Grew in confidence with the bat, with an excellent unbeaten partnership between he and Liam against Norths lasting 15 overs setting up one of the best wins of the season. Asher Manton. Second leading wicket taker for the team was a great reward for the work he put into his leggies during the year. Always encouraging his teammates, willing to listen to new ideas and share them with the teammates - a great on field leader. Always volunteered to open when was everyone else avoided eye contact, he was rewarded with a big innings against Ginninderra. Will score more runs next season with a Thunder batwrap! Hugh Taylor. Another superb season for both the club and the Emerging Comets rep team. Again dominated with the bat with a superb 64 and scored nearly 250 runs for the season – remarkably he was dismissed in only the first two games and didn’t lose his wicket for the rest of the season. Our #1 wicketkeeper with some handy stumpings and deadly in the field. Liam Cristofani. Our most passionate player, his focus while batting paying dividends with almost 150 runs and four innings – the unseen stat was the runs he gained for his batting partners with lightning quick running. Always charging in with the ball, he was also a constant threat in the field, taking the equal most catches for the team. Grady Woolley. The tempo always lifted whenever Grady was around. Constantly inspired and encouraged his teammates and had a terrific all round season with runs, wickets and constant pressure in the field – his 24 n/o against Marist in the last game was excellent. Unfortunately a broken wrist saw him miss the semi final – no wrestling with your brother! Mehar Johal. The master blaster always provided an entertaining innings with his top scores of 52 and 48 at better than a run a ball. Improved his bowling accuracy tremendously and rewarded with some big wickets in the last few games and his strong arm in the field keeping the batters under constant pressure. Eric Firth. Doubted himself with the bat early on, but his extra work in the nets was repaid with a fantastic 25 from 52 in a match winning partnership against Western Districts. Turned the ball a mile with his leggies, especially when he began flighting the ball and also put in some very good wicket keeping performances during the year. Imran Ali. A classic batting style and a hunger to train hard saw a great season with the bat – his back foot drives in his 30 n/o against Marist were unreal. He always lifted the teams spirits with his “Immie wickets”, and was one of our most alert fielders with an unbelievable runout from the boundary in the Super Sixes! Said he wasn’t a bowler, but his regular wickets and ability to contain opposing batsmen showed otherwise.

Under 12 Division 2

It’s easy to say ‘what a great season’ when we finished top and then won the GF – but that would only tell part of our story. This is a champion team who won from seemingly impossible positions, including in the GF – every player made a significant contribution at an important time during the season. Opposition coaches regularly commended the boys for playing the game in the right spirit. They have been a delight to coach. Thanks to the parents for their great support. Rhys Bandara His unique bowling style bamboozled a number of batsmen during the season which earned him a spot in our top four bowlers. His wicked cover drives are also a joy to watch. Rhys also took the last wicket in the grand final, tempting the batsmen into a miscued drive. Nick Carswell Nick was super consistent, usually batting high in the order and providing solid support for his batting partner while working the singles. An excellent fielder with a good arm, he delighted his team mates with a flurry of wickets in a late season match, getting 3/14. Fentyn Green A true team player, Fentyn led the team brilliantly in the GF. He bats with style and purpose which is reflected in him scoring the second most runs for our team, 145 runs at 29. A very safe pair of hands, snaring 6 catches and a useful bowler completes the picture. Sehaj Kang Sehaj is a humble and gifted player with both bat and ball. This is reflected in him finishing the season as joint top scorer with 189 runs and also our leading wicket-taker with 15 wickets. His 42 not out in our only loss was a joy to watch as was his 3/1 against Norths. Charlie Leach Charlie’s189 runs for the season at 47 tells the tale. All season he has played in an entertaining fashion, with a top score of 53. He continued to score consistently in the 20s and 30s throughout the season. He also creates doubt in the batsmen’s mind with his fast bowling. Oscar Luck-Cameron The team’s Energiser Bunny, whether it be scurrying between the wickets or in the field, Oscar’s energy was great. He kept well throughout the season; he improved his batting, even hitting a few fours, to finish in our top four batsmen. Hamish McWhirter Hamish is our team’s quiet (and effective) achiever. He regularly got himself into double figures, including 13 off 40 balls in the GF, providing great support to Tyger. Hamish is a more than handy bowler and effected a superb run out, also in the GF. Tyger O’Halloran His huge grin and laid back style belies a competitive and talented cricketer. With bat in hand, he regularly finds the boundary, including a match-turning knock of 27 in the GF. In the field, he bowls accurately and is a great fielder either in close or on the boundary. Cole Phillips Cole really improved his cricket during the season, even playing some leg side glances! Cole is a reliable batsman who held a number of an innings together during the season. He is also a handy bowler, bowling super-accurately, with the best figures of 2/2. Blake Sattler A revelation in the field this season, Blake took 4 catches, including a remarkable caught and bowled - he finished as our second-highest wicket taker, with the best figures of 2/2. With a top score of 19, he showed glimpses of his batting skills, and finds the boundary in style. Daniel Sparks Another one of our top bowlers, Daniel’s control and accuracy were vital ingredients in a team who liked to bowl the opposition out. When his ‘eye is in’ he hits the ball as hard as anyone. His catch to win the GF will live long in the memory!

Under 12 Friday Ungraded

Despite a disjointed season where the weather was not our friend, all the boys improved throughout a successful season. Augurs well for future cricket season.

Connor Campbell. Connor’s bowling was a real feature with his accuracy improving and wickets flowing. More concentration will see continued improvement in Connor’s batting.

Lachlan Costello. An ever enthusiastic team member, Lachie hit some lovely shots and ran selflessly between wickets. Shows potential as a wicket keeper where he is always in the action.

Archie Davidson. Another enthusiastic cricketer, Archie showed good defensive technique with his batting. Took plenty of wickets with his sneaky off breaks too.

Matt Harmer. Matt is a delight to coach, Matt batted and bowled well with several not outs and plenty of wickets. Some dynamic fielding too rounded out a great season.

Anthony Juchnicki. In his second season Anthony improved in all facets. His left arm bowling took several wickets and batting showed promise.

Sam Kirkcaldie. Sam’s batting was a season highlight with a couple of stand out innings. A solid season in the field with safe hands taking several catches, plus accurate bowling.

Alex Merner. Mr Concentration. Some determined batting with several not outs. But it was with his bowling that he excelled becoming a real wicket taker.

Joseph Parry. Joseph has a very stylish batting and bowling technique. Bowled a critical pressure final over in a tight late season victory and overall enjoyed his cricket.

Lachlan Riley. Lachlan demonstrated some very good busy and organised batting, complemented with several catches, a run out or three and emerging pace bowling.

Thanks also to Dylan Shillington and Daniel Sparks, our reliable extras. These boys have all had a great season.

Thunder Junior Cricket League (TJCL) Plate

The girls u13 Plate team were absolutely fabulous this year. Despite only 2 of them having played cricket before, and being younger than the other teams, they were competitive with every other team in the competition. All the girls brought a ‘can do’ attitude to the game and consistently improved through the season. They are a great bunch of girls who got on well together and are fun to be around. Each team member contributed to the team’s success and deserves special mention:

Amelia Faulkner. Amelia had a great year making big improvements in all parts of the game. Amelia is an excellent wicket keeper who has good footwork and no fear of using her body to stop the ball. She took most of her wickets toward the end of the season after greatly improving her accuracy with the ball. Annabelle Wheadon. Annabelle was a real asset for the team. She’s a great wicket keeper and aggressive batter. Annabelle’s very strong hitting the ball on the leg side. She applied herself well this year greatly improving her outfielding with some marvellous catches on the boundary Audrey Faulkner. Audrey was one of the standout players in the competition and will not be out of place in the u17 competition next year. Audrey is a very good left arm swing bowler, making life very difficult for the batters with her accurate bowling and deadly sandshoe crushers. Audrey consistently hit the ball to the boundary and also contributed with great catching ability and accurate throws which resulted in a number of run outs. Bella Hawke. Bella was a natural leader this year as a senior player in the team. She is an excellent wicket keeper who was not afraid to stand up close to the wickets for the quicker bowlers which resulted in a few stumpings. Bella’s batting improved greatly this year as she focused on her technique and foot movement. Bella’s fast legspinners were a real handful for the batters. Chaya Hall. Chaya is great young cricketer whose availability this year was limited by some injuries. Chaya is a capable batter whose technique was rapidly improving every game she played. Chaya is also great legspinner who turns the ball a long way. Clare Fogarty. Clare was a big contributor to the team this year. Claire was one of our most accurate bowlers and took a lot of wickets by hitting the stumps. Claire has a very good batting defence and improved on this through the year with an array of shots on both sides of the wicket. Dior Costello. Dior has an infectious enthusiasm that was great to get the team going but unfortunately only played a handful of games due to injuries. Dior has all the skills to be a great cricketer. She can use her feet to attack the bowlers when she’s batting, and a good wicket keeper and bowler. Matilda Hawke. Matilda worked hard on her cricket this year and it payed off with the improvements in her game. She was very enthusiastic running between the wickets and scored plenty of runs. She started the season bowling fast, went on to bowl legspinners and ended the season bowling left arm wrong’ uns. Matilda was always alert in the field getting herself into good positions to help out her team mates. Tiare Slater. Tiare has all the skills to be really good cricketer. She is a fast and accurate bowler and very good wicketkeeper. Tia gets to the pitch of the ball and played some wonderful drives, straight and through the covers. These resulted in plenty of boundaries.

Under 13 Division 1

It has been a season of growth for the Under 13’s Div1 team this year. We started the season a long way off the pace. The kids worked very hard on their game throughout the season and the results have started to show. At the end of the season we were competing against the strongest teams. We finished by winning 3 of our last 5 games, beating a second placed Western Districts along the way. The kids believe in themselves and will only grow in confidence next season. The kids exhibited great sportsmanship throughout the season and have learnt to support each other. All in all, the kids have worked very hard this season and should be very proud of themselves. A special thanks goes to Nathan Brenton for his help at training, Andrew Schmid and David Pearce for their professional umpiring and scoring. I would also like to thank all the parents for coming out each weekend and cheering the kids on. It really does mean a lot to us. Toby Olsen. Toby took a while to get going but from Christmas onwards has shown everyone what he can do. He scored a huge amount of runs, finishing the season with 290 to his name. Keep hitting the ball long and hard and the runs will keep flowing. Toby Brenton. Toby is our main spin bowler. He bowls sharp turning leg breaks, consistently landing the ball in the right spot. Toby has taken plenty of wickets this season and will continue to do so next season. Toby is an awesome fielder and a consistent batsman. Lawrence Pearce. Lawrence has been our quiet achiever this season. He has contributed valuable runs when we have needed them and taken wickets in similar moments. We can also rely on Lawrence under a high ball as he is one of our better fieldsmen. See you next season mate. Corey Sattler. Corey is a good all-round cricketer, he takes wickets, scores runs and is an exceptional wicketkeeper. He has captained the team well throughout the season and is making good tactical decisions. Corey is well respected by the team as a leader and inspirational figure. James Smith. James has been our leading wicket tacker this season. His pace has increased throughout the season as his action and run up has improved. He is swinging the ball and is bowling a consistent line and length. I can only see more wickets to come next season. Pranav Arun. Pranav showed again this season that he takes wickets. He is a good fielder, particularly down on the boundary where he covers ground quickly and has a strong arm. Pranav’s batting is coming along and he started to score consistent runs towards the end of the season. Harrison Haitsma. Harrison has bowled very well this season. He took a wicket with his very first ball for the club and has continued to take regular wickets throughout the season. His bowling action is strong and uncomplicated, making him a very accurate bowler at good pace. Sam Schmid. Sam’s cricket has developed well throughout the season. He has worked on his bowling and was taking wickets in the second half of the season as a result. His fielding is improving and towards the end of the season he showed us what he can do with the bat in a fine innings against Norths. Owen Gair. Owen was always going to be one of our better bowlers and that proved to be the case. Owen has also worked very hard on his batting this season and formed a strong partnership with Corey at the top of the order. He has shown himself as a solid all-rounder. Well done on a successful season. Grace Lyons. Grace hasn’t had a bad game all season. Grace has scored consistent runs and her fielding/wicket keeping is superb. Grace is also a fast and accurate bowler who will only improve next season. She has also captained the side well when the opportunity has arisen.

Under 14 Division 1

A great result this season after losing some key players to Grammar from last season. Having fun and improving skills were the achieved goals for the season! We managed to make finals and finished equal 2nd in the T20 but missed out on finals due to percentage. Thanks to all the parent helpers this season. Alex Godfree. A great season for Alex returning to the junior format again. Alex started the season off very well with a team season high of 82*. Despite a run of hand injuries preventing Alex from playing in some matches he still managed to contribute with some great scores with the bat and taking some handy wickets along the way. Angelo Bourandanis. Angelo took up golf in his spare time this season which is a fantastic compliment to his batting. It showed in his game which was more considered, working on timing rather than brute strength and taking his time out in the middle. As , Angelo was a popular choice and led the team well both on and off the field. Clare Levings. Another huge cricket season for many teams this season. Clare does well to maintain her energy levels with the amount of cricket she is competing in (as do her parents!). Clare had a solid season, contributing invaluably with strength in all areas of the game. It was good to see her return invigorated after a week off following a nasty wicket keeping accident. Elizabeth Coper-Jones. Liz had a very up-and-down season with some very unlucky dismissals halting her batting stats. But Liz remained positive, kept taking wickets with tight leg spin bowling (including a hattrick!) and eventually braking through with the bat with a chanceless, very mature, 67 runs in the final round match. She has a very positive influence on the team and is a joy to coach. Jack Evesson Larsen. Jack is a genuine bowling all-rounder. He continued to improve throughout the season. He worked hard in the nets and was unfortunate to not convert his good form in games with some unlucky dismissals. He can hit the ball as hard as any player I have seen (hang in there Jack, I know you will break through soon). Jacks size and strength make him a formidable bowler who was underutilised this season. Julia Bassett. A very well drilled pace bowler, Julia can destroy an opposition batting line-up in one short spell or restrict their scoring and build the pressure for her bowling partner to cash in at the other end. Julia’s skills are well regarded around the representative circuit and she has the potential to go a long way in women’s cricket. I look forward to watching her on the TV one day soon! Kyle Hyauiason. Another fantastic season for Kyle who continues to stretch himself. This season Kyle put his hand up for a leadership role and took it on with maturity. He continued taking wickets with his menacing full, swinging yorkers. This season he finished on a high with the bat with an unbeaten career high score of 46*. Matthew Phillips. A great player to have on the team, Matt is always first to sacrifice his own needs for his teammates. A delight to coach, Matt is always attentive when receiving advice on improving his game and always puts in 100% effort. Still very young in this age group, Matt has proven he has the talent to go far. He has a solid technique with which to build on. Monica Gair. A very welcome addition to the bowling attack this season. Monica had a consistent first season with the team taking a lot of wickets despite having some difficulties with the ball weight change she contended with on a weekly basis. Perhaps the ball of the season was saved for the 1st ball of the semi-final, bowling our old teammate Blake Faunce with an in-swinging yorker! Oliver Evesson Larsen. A fantastic addition to the team this season. Oli has a great eye and solid pair of hands, contributing as one of four top class wicket keepers in the team. Oli’s batting technique is very solid and a fantastic base to build on as a top 3 batsman. His quick witted sense of humour provides added entertainment value for the team! Sam Manton. Another consistent year, improving on last year’s performance and evolving into a troublesome off spin bowler. Sam is always passionate and vocal on the field, he is a hard task master that expects a lot of himself and his team mates. He has great fielding skills and head for the game. Thomas Sparks. Tom’s genuine all-rounder status continued to grow this season. Tom has a good strategic mind for the game which he put to good use when he suffered a back strain later in the season. He employed clever variations taking a high number of wickets. He used his strength to bludgeon the opposition attack into submission, often clearing the boundary by healthy margins! Thanks to Asher Manton and Cooper Bridge or filling in for the team on one occasion each. They both proved valuable contributors and it was great to see them slot right in and reap reward for their skills. 24

Under 14 Division 2

The U14/2’s played well as a team and showed great sportsmanship throughout the year. There fielding was at a high standard throughout the year. Despite only winning one game they showed improvement and had a few close losses in the second half of the year. I enjoyed coaching them and would like to thank the parents especially Henry Hekimian as manager and Matt Stilwell for regularly scoring.

Aidan Corby. Aidan was a good all round cricketer. He showed versatility by taking up spin bowling late in the season to good effect. I would encourage him to continue this in future seasons. He did a good job as wicketkeeper as well. Gabe Gerebtzoff. Despite some issues with his shoulder Gabe always put in 100%. He showed great respect for his teammates, coach and opposition. In the second half of the season his batting improved and he scored 19 not out in our last game. Seth Goodwin. Seth was a good all round cricketer and showed excellent consistency throughout the year. He finished first in the number of wickets taken and second in the batting, which showed how valuable he was to the team. He was also areliable fielder. Jaspar Hawke. Jaspar always enjoyed his cricket and showed a willingness to bat anywhere in the order. He was a solid fielder and a good team player. Aidan Hekimian. He was our opening bowler and bowled well throughout the year. He bowled excellently in taking 5/10 to win us the game against Ginniderra. He was a reliable fielder and showed potential in his batting with a well-made 22* in the game against St Edmunds. Wasi Hossain. Wasi showed improvement throughout the year and always had fun while playing. He produced some excellent run outs. Zach Monson. Zach opened the batting throughout the year. Was by far our best batsman and batted very well in the second half of the season. He scored an outstanding 60 in our last 2 day game. He is also a good bowler, fielder and keeper. Well done Zach. Kyan Russell. This was Kyan’s first year of cricket and he showed a great commitment and improvement during the season. He was a great listener and improved all elements of his game during the season. He also has a solid defence and hopefully next year can develop further. Ryan Stilwell. Ryan opened the bowling to great effect and was a reliable fielder. He has a strong defence. Ryan played a few games in 6th grade where he took a few wickets. He has a great understanding of the game. Max Mellor-Belcher. Max loves his cricket and developed as a wicketkeeper during the year. He showed good sportsmanship and was always a great team player. Oscar Brown. Oscar joined us late and came up from u12’s last year and showed that he was a fantastic fielder. He adapted to the larger pitch size and showed consistency in his bowling. His batting showed improvement and is something he can continue to work on next season.

Thunder Junior Cricket League (TJCL) Cup

The U17 Cup competition started four seasons ago – this season, we drew from a wide age group to make our team work - from 10 to 16 years old, but this has often been the case. WCMCC is a strong supporter of Cup and the club will always seek to field a Cup team. This was always a transition year – for WCMCC, a bunch of experienced girls moved on from Cup. The club made the decision to bring up a group of girls from Plate to keep Cup going and I would like to thank all those girls (and their parents) that came up from Plate for their trust - I said to them that by the end of the season they would be a key part of our team and we absolutely got there. It has absolutely been a team effort. Our Cup team had a great season. We created a new mix and the team played well. Importantly, the girls have developed so much. Others noticed - so many players, parents and coaches from other teams have made positive comments to me through the season about our team – these are the best comments. I would also like to thank our experienced girls, some which are still quite young, that welcomed the new girls in, supported our team plans and took every opportunity to pass on advice. This has been a key part of our success across the past 3-4 years.

Alyssa Davidson. Alyssa is a genuine scary fast bowler – these are hard to find. A strong batter and fielder. Part of the WCMCC Cup team since she was 10 but has now taken great steps forward as a team leader. Asvini Allada. Asvini is in her third season for our Cup team and has been a key part of the leadership within the team and it has been great to watch her provide advice to younger girls. Asvini is a very relaxed opener and has opened the batting for us most of the season but it has been great to watch her guide Alana as her opener partner in the past 4 games. Amal Palekar. Amal is in her second season for our Cup team. She is a talented left arm bowler that has been a great team player. We have sought to give her some more batting opportunities and I have been pleased that she has taken these opportunities. Grace Lyons. Grace is a very talented cricketer that is both experienced and young. She is a talented batter and wicket keeper, and handy bowler. Her 50* in the second last match was worth the price of the ticket. Maddy Scott. Things clicked for Maddy a couple of games into the season. Maddy bowls medium pace with a natural off-cutter. She has opened the bowling with Alyssa most matches. Her fielding has improved and she has also worked hard on her batting. Emma Loaney. Emma came up from Plate and her cricket has developed throughout the season. She has worked on her leg-spin bowling and she took two important wickets in the final, including Tuggeranong’s captain. Stella Wilde. Stella came up from Plate and was nervous but has shown us what she can achieve. She is a natural bowler and I think there is massive potential in her bowling. However, she has shown great talent as a fielder, with some great catches, and a batter. Alana Horsfall. Alana wasn’t sure she was in the right place at our first training. But it has worked out well - she has learned so much from our more experienced girls. She is keen to become a good wicket-keeper and she has come so far with her keeping. She opened the batting with Asvini the last four matches. She has also worked hard on her bowling. Bella Hawke. Bella is part of our Plate team that we have called on five times during the season. Thanks to Bella for helping us keep going. Bella is keen to be a leg-spin bowler and works hard on her bowling. She has been so keen when she has played for us. Coach/Manager: Paul Bassett

What another fantastic season, extremely proud of the way the team conduct themselves. Faizan Ali: Faizan’s bowling was fantastic this season, he put his old club to the sword when he took 4 wickets against Tuggeranong. He did not get as many opportunities with the bat but when he did he showed he can play some great strokes and hit some nice boundaries. Will Bates: Will made amazing progress this season, for someone who had not played cricket before he should be very proud of the improvement he made all round as a cricketer. His bowling effort in the 2 day grand final was great, an excellent line and length. Jack Castles: Jack made a big impact in his first season with the Creek, he hit the ground running with his bowling, his fielding is excellent and he showed against Marist that he was more than capable of opening the batting. Sam Costello: Sam continued to entertain, 130 off 45 balls, 5 fours and 17 sixes. Add to that 4 sixes in the 2 day grand final that really took the wind out of Grammar’s sails. With the ball, he had many batters wishing he would hit the stumps already, so they could get off strike. Tom Dears: Tom’s season was cut short through a European holiday and then a broken wrist. The few games he did play though was classic Tom, a beautiful line and length to which most batsmen in this age can’t hit, Tom will love the shift to turf wickets. Calum Harland: Calum is the unsung hero of this team, week in week out he keeps things tidy behind the stumps. His batting stepped up this season, with a few scores in double figures he showed that he can hold down an end and he can also hit boundaries with ease. Owen Levings: Owen showed he can really take the game on this season, 104 off 53 balls, 15 fours and 3 sixes versus Tuggeranong. With the ball and as captain he is very strategically focussed and uses the diverse skills in the team to great effect. Callum Loaney: Callum’s batting was even stronger this season, 31 against Grammar in the opening round, 30 runs against Marist where we only won by one run was great and an excellent 64 against Monaro. He has certainly justified my decision of batting him at 5. Sean Murphy: Sean in his first season for a while scored a solid 40 in the first round against Grammar. He followed this with 54 against Monaro and 39 not out in the T20 grand final. He is a real all rounder with some good bowling and fielding efforts as well. Tom Millington: Tom was again so consistent; he provides a tremendous calming influence to the team. When Tom fires at the top of the order the rest of the team walks with a real spring in their step. Add some great bowling and excellent fielding for an all round effort. Sam Molloy: Sam missed a number of games while chasing his soccer dreams but when available he always managed to make an impact. An 85 run partnership with Tom in the grand final set the platform for victory. Also very capable in the field and with the ball. Lauren Phillips: Lauren bowled very well this season but unfortunately missed the finals through injury. She opened the bowling and took 5 for 13 against Radford, 3 clean bowled and two caught in the slips (quality), add to this a great 3 for 28 against Marist. Liam Reynolds: Liam bowled well again, he showed some great mental toughness to push through with a dislocated middle finger at the end of the season. As usual he can score quickly when required and really makes our tail wag to the annoyance of the opposition. Saurav Varma: Saurav had the jitters at the start but found his mojo and finished with three very solid innings against Radford, Marist and Monaro. In the field Saurav is awesome; he also really adds to team morale, his witty comments help the time fly in the field..

Colts

The Colts struggled valiantly through the season with limited playing stock that were adversely impacted by injuries. The team just failed to make the finals for both the long and short form versions of the game. Next season should prove more promising with greater numbers available. A big thank you to the scorers and the parents who supported the team. A thank you to the club for supporting the team and allowing them access to turf wickets. The coaches award goes to the player whose efforts can be singularly reduce to the one phrase: "The Catch!"

Lier Pierlot. An Eastlake ring-in who consistently performed for the WCMCC Colts with his strong batting and occasional wrist spin. Good luck in your future grade efforts.

Isaac Bryson. A last minute transfer from Port Moresby. Isaac played well from limited at bats. Look out for him in the future.

Ollie Speldewinde. Quality off spinner who has a good cricket brain. Ollie will do well at grade level should he choose to go down this path.

Zane Haider. A dogged bat with a typical sub-continent technique reminiscent of the legendary Gavaskar or Zaheer Abbas. Looking forward to more contributions at Weston Creek.

Ali Haider. Hit line and length with his more than handy medium pacers. Ali 'Good Areas' Haider could shape it both ways with the ball. Should continue to deliver for the Colts.

Alex MacDonald. A more than useful quick with potential grade-level wheels. Will have to decide between the world of international online-gaming and the Weston Creek Colts. Tough call.

Riley Hawke. Bowled some unplayable deliveries this year that would get most grade-level Canberran batters out. Just has to bowl a little more 'line-and-length' in-between.

Daniel Khan. Switch from bowling left-arm wrist spin to left-arm orthodox at the start of the previous year. This continues to be a good decision because when he bowls in rhythm Daniel is more than handy. However, his 'Catch' in the last game of the season was the mark of a legend.

Owen Gorrel. Lost a yard of pace this year but still retained some nasty swing. We are hoping Owen will return next year to complement a strong bowling attack.

Stephen Rogers. A bit of batting, fielding and wicket-keeping. Also, would have driven the team bus if we had one. Ultimate utility player.

Riley Rawiri. A good batter and a strong bowler during the year. Some of his bowling spells were unplayable at time. Along with Ollie, was a good captain for the team.

Grand Finals Under 12 Division 2 Weston Creek Molonglo 8/102 defeated Marist Blue 8/60 Batting: T. O’Halloran 27, H. McWhirter 13 Bowling: B. Sattler 1/2, O. Luck-Cameron 1/3, T. O’Halloran 1/3 After a super consistent season, we played in the grand final against Marist Blue. This Marist team was the only team we had lost to and it was a top of the table clash. After losing the toss, things weren’t going quite to plan when we found ourselves at 5/38 at the 15 over drinks break. This was despite Nick’s fine innings. We had a little pep talk about how vital it was for us to bat out the 30 overs. While Oscar and Daniel didn’t have long stays at the crease, Hamish thwarted the bowling in his best batting effort of the season to make 13 in 40 balls. He was the perfect foil for Tyger, who also played one of his finest innings, mixing stoic defence with five glorious boundaries. He was run out on 27 as he unselfishly attempted an extra run on the last ball. We only made 102 runs, but the momentum was now with us. In the field, Fentyn marshalled the boys like a seasoned pro. The boys’ energy was great throughout. They executed the basics to perfection: only one wide, six no-balls and five byes shows how tight the bowling was. Hamish got the first wicket with an outstanding run out. Tyger, Daniel, Sehaj, Rhys and Hamish and Nick had each bowled accurately when Cole struck the vital blow, clean bowling the batsman. Tyger and Sehaj each snared a wicket, both clean-bowled. With more tight bowling from Blake and Charlie, Marist was 4/50 and we were evenly placed at drinks. Oscar and Blake then took a wicket each, both caught behind by Fentyn. Charlie then clean-bowled another batsman before Rhys drew a false shot which was snaffled at cover by Daniel for the last wicket in the nineteenth over. Joy and mayhem ensued - but there was also time to shake the opposition’s hands and to thank the umpires. Player of the match: Tyger. O’Halloran

2017/2018 TJCL Girls Cup Final Tuggeranong 7/141 defeated WCMCC 6/102 Batting: A. Palekar 27, G. Lyons 16 Bowling: A. Davidson 2/3, E. Loaney 2/14 I was so pleased that we made the final. Making a final takes work but it is a fantastic experience for the girls – playing a good team in a final is a great challenge. We had a consistent performance across the season and Cup (no matter who sponsors the competition) is a powerful tool to develop girls in cricket. The Toss. We are an interesting team - we probably have the best bowling team in the comp but most of the time we have batted very well. Our Captain, Alyssa, chose to bowl, which made sense. Tuggeranong is a strong batting team but to be honest, their strength depends on a couple of girls. We knew that and it depended on where they batted and for how long. We took early wickets thanks to Alyssa and Maddy, with Alyssa taking 2/3 off two overs. However, that brought their two best batters to the crease in a partnership. It was a great contest between bat and ball. The Tuggeranong batters made more than we would like but we bowled everyone against them. All of our inexperienced bowlers bowled to these two talented batters and it will be a great learning experience in years to come. We eventually got them out but by then they were on track to a good score. Additionally, the pressure of the final caused us to bowl a few more extras than normal. But the funny thing is, it is a measure of our team that when Tuggeranong made a big score – 7/141 from their 20 overs – we felt we were in with a chance. Unfortunately, we had a steady trickle of wickets every few overs during our batting so we didn’t get the partnership we needed. But we fought on. It was a roller-coaster – much of the time we looked like we were too far behind but then we would have a good over and look in the race. In the end we made 6/102 from our 20 overs. We made it a contest from start to finish. For the final I should mention a couple of things: Well done to our young Captain, Alyssa, who made sure all of our nine players bowled two overs minimum, which is tricky. Alyssa reflected the spirit of Cup well: competitive but participative. Well done to Emma Loaney. Spin bowling is hard work and two wickets in a final is fantastic. We done to Amal – batting was tough and she top scored with an important 27. I enjoyed the batting by Maddy and Stella at the end – they followed the coach’s instructions to the tee – we could no longer win but lets bat out our 20 overs well. Four years ago I coached a very young team in the first Cup final – we lost – but gee it was a great experience. There has been a great team effort across the club to make sure we could field a Cup team each week. To survive we brought up some Plate girls for Cup and well done to them. Thanks especially to Bella her help in the final. Player of the grand final: Amal Palekar

Under 16 - T20 Weston Creek Molonglo 10/149 defeated by Grammar Navy 6/150 Batting: Sean Murphy 39*, Owen Levings 30 Bowling: Tom Millington 1/5, Faizan Ali 1/25 Weston Creek batted first and unfortunately lost Sam C run out at the non striker's end when a ball ricocheted off the bowler’s hand. Tom M was the next to go being uncharacteristically beaten by a good ball leaving us at 2/24. Owen batted beautifully as he usually does and retired, while Calum Loaney was not there long but contributed a valuable 10. Sam Manton then held the middle of the innings together with a solid 20 from 24 balls leaving the crease at 4/101. Sean then blasted his way to retirement with some lovely boundaries while being assisted by Saurav who was taking the cheeky singles to get Sean on strike. Liam tried very hard to get things moving but was unlucky to be caught, Calum showed his intentions with a massive 6 but was then dismissed shortly after. Will also came out with intent, blasting three boundaries. Faizan batted selflessly and opened his shoulders to try and score as many as possible in the last 5 overs. Owen and Sean returned at the end and we finished with a very respectable 149 runs. Grammar batted very well, they came out determined. We picked up the first wicket on 18 but then had to wait until 54 for the second. We bowled as best we could but in the mood Grammar were in, it was always going to be hard to contain them. They ended up scoring the required runs in the 15th over. I maintain that we didn’t bowl badly they just batted brilliantly, their best effort for the season in a T20. Considering that we were the only team to score more than 100 runs against them for the whole season and we defeated them in the regular rounds with 112 on the scoreboard, I was very happy with the 149 we posted. Unfortunately they were just too good for us on the day. We spoke straight after the game about the effort and how I was very proud. I told them not to be disappointed because we left nothing in the tank and we were beaten, we were certainly not beaten embarrassingly. We then spoke about turning our focus to the 2 day competition because we were odds on to be facing them in the decider for that competition too. Read on for the tale of redemption………. Player of the grand final: Sean Murphy

Under 16 – Two Day Grand Final Weston Creek Molonglo 4/173 defeated Grammar Navy 10/168 Batting: Batting: Tom Millington 42, Sam Molloy 42 Bowling: Will Bates 3/21, Owen Levings 2/23 Quarter 1 - Saturday, WCMCC batting : We lost the toss and were sent into bat, Owen was very happy because he wanted to bat first anyway. Tom M and Owen started like they do each week, very watchful and putting away the loose balls. Grammar threw their best bowling at us and unfortunately Owen missed a field placement change which happened between balls and was caught on the boundary for 23 which had us 1/35. Sam Molloy came out next and settled in very quickly, he and Tom pushed us to 54 at drinks (15 overs). The three of us chatted at drinks and I said I was not concerned about runs I just wanted to finish our 25 overs only one wicket down so we had wickets in hand for the chase on Sunday. Well not only did they protect their wickets but they calmly and confidently doubled our score in the remaining 10 overs to finish at 1/108, a tremendous effort. Quarter 2 - Saturday, Grammar batting : Grammar started very confidently and the worm showed that they had a better run rate than us. A great ball from Will and an excellent catch from Calum H saw the first wicket fall at 34. Then at 42 we claimed another with Sam C taking a good catch off Tom M’s bowling, the spirit in the field was up. Grammar regained some composure and the third wicket did not fall until 77 when Calum H took a great catch off Tom M. There was lots of energy in the field and another quick wicket had Grammar at 4/82 when Sam M took a catch off Owen’s bowling. Again Grammar composed themselves and passed our score of 108, in the lead and looking to get well in front they lost another wicket, caught and bowled by Owen and were now 5/119. We were happy to have taken 5 wickets and couldn’t believe our luck when Sam M grabbed a caught and bowled to leave Grammar at 6/125 at the end of day one. Quarter 3 - Sunday, Grammar batting : Weston Creek were keen to wrap things up and when the 7th wicket fell with no change to the overnight score spirits were certainly high, Owen covered a lot of ground to take a catch off Faizan’s bowling. The new batter then blasted a boundary but was caught not long after by Tom M off Will’s bowling to have the score at 8/131. The ninth wicket fell at 136 when Calum was very quick to throw down the stumps whilst standing back to Will’s bowling, very smart wicket keeping. The Grammar tail then wagged and was looking like they were going to bat for some time before Sam C returned to the attack and claimed the final wicket (LBW) with his first ball which also saw him notch up his 100th wicket for the club. What a great all round team performance. Quarter 4 - Sunday, WCMCC batting : With 61 runs required to win (169 the target), Tom M and Sam M returned to the crease, they added 12 to the overnight score before Tom was caught ending another fantastic innings. With 49 runs to win and Grammar with their tails up Sam C strode to the crease. With no more runs added Sam M was ending a great innings and leaving WCMCC at 3/120. Sean joined Sam C at the crease and all we knew was that it would be entertaining with these two in the middle. Uncharacteristically Sean played the supporting role while Sam took the bowling on, 4 sixes really took the pressure off and unluckily Sean fell on 165 with only one boundary to his name (very unusual). Callum L then joined Sam and they finished the job quite quickly. What an all round fantastic team effort we produced and that was exactly what was required to defeat a very good Grammar team. I am one very proud coach! Player of the grand final: Tom Millington, Sam Molloy
