  • BUTTERS FAMILY There Were 4 Brothers Who Attended
BUTTERS FAMILY There were 4 brothers who attended Framlingham between 1888 and 1905 and a couple of them were very prominent racehorse trainers. JOSEPH ARTHUR “FRANK” BUTTERS (1888-95) Frank Butters was Champion Trainer 8 times between 1927 and 1949. In addition to training the winners of 15 Classics in England he also trained Irish Derby winners Turkhan, Nathoo and Hindostan and Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe winner Migoli for the Aga Khan III. Frank Butters was born in Austria, where his father Joseph rode and trained, and became a successful trainer there himself. During the 1914-18 war he was nominally interned, then trained in Italy before being given a 4 year contract as private trainer to the 17th Earl of Derby at Stanley House, Newmarket, becoming leading trainer in his first year there, 1927. When Lord Derby withdrew from racing for economic reasons, Butters leased the Fitzroy Stables in Newmarket as a public trainer. Here he trained for Mr A W Gordon and, later, the Aga Khan III and the 5th Earl of Durham. He considered Bahram to be the best horse he ever trained. Important successes: 2000 Guineas 1000 Guineas Derby Bahram 1935 (T) Fair Isle 1930 (T) Bahram 1935 (T) Mahmoud 1936 (T) Oaks St Leger Other major race(s) Beam 1927 (T) Fairway 1928 (T) (featuring horses in this database) Toboggan 1928 (T) Firdaussi 1932 (T) Princess of Wales's Stakes Colorado 1927 (T) Udaipur 1932 (T) Bahram 1935 (T) Eclipse Stakes Colorado 1927 (T) Light Brocade 1934 (T) Turkhan 1940 (T) Eclipse Stakes Fairway 1928 (T) Steady Aim 1946 (T) Tehran 1944 (T) Champion Stakes Fairway 1928 (T) Masaka 1948 (T) Champion Stakes Fairway 1929 (T) Champion Stakes Umidwar 1934 (T) Jockey Club Stakes Umidwar 1934 (T) Dewhurst Stakes, Newmarket Bala Hissar 1935 (T) LTCOLONEL JAMES WAUGH BUTTERS OBE (1889-1904) Unlike Frank, he doesn’t appear to have been involved at all in horse racing.

Hints for a gravitational transition in the Tully-Fisher data George Alestas,∗ Ioannis Antoniou,y and Leandros Perivolaropoulosz Department of Physics, University of Ioannina, GR-45110, Ioannina, Greece (Dated: July 13, 2021) We use an up to date compilation of Tully-Fisher data to search for transitions in the evolution of the Tully-Fisher relation. Using an up to date data compilation, we find hints at ≈ 3σ level for a transition at critical distances Dc ' 9Mpc and Dc ' 17Mpc. We split the full sample in two subsamples according to the measured galaxy distance with respect to a splitting distance Dc and identify the likelihood of the best fit slope and intercept of one sample with respect to the best fit corresponding values of the other sample. For Dc ' 9Mpc and Dc ' 17Mpc we find a tension between the two subsamples at a level of ∆χ2 > 17 (3:5σ). Using a Monte-Carlo simulation we demonstrate that this result is robust with respect to random statistical and systematic variations of the galactic distances. If the tension is interpreted as due to a gravitational strength transition, it would imply a shift of the effective gravitational constant to lower values for distances larger than ∆G Dc by G ' −0:1. Such a shift is of the anticipated sign and magnitude but at somewhat lower distance (redshift) than the gravitational transition recently proposed to address the Hubble and ∆G growth tensions ( G ' −0:1 at transition redshift zt . 0:01 (Dc . 40Mpc)). I. INTRODUCTION where Geff is the effective Newton's constant involved in gravitational interactions and S the surface density 2 The Tully{Fisher relation (TFR) [1] has been proposed S ≡ M=R which is expected to be constant [5].

Mixed siliciclastic and carbonate sediments are present in this succession. The field observations and laboratory studies were used to identify 14 micro/petrofacies, which can be grouped Keywords: fl Bahram Formation into 5 depositional environments: shore, tidal at, lagoon, shoal and shallow open marine. A mixed Devonian carbonate-detrital shallow shelf is suggested for the depositional environment of the Bahram Formation Facies analysis which deepens to the east (Sardar section) and thins in southern locations (Hutk section). Three 3rd- Mixed carbonate-detrital shallow-shelf order cyclic siliciclastic and carbonate sequences in the Bahram Formation and one sequence shared with Sequence stratigraphy the overlying joint with Hutk Formation are identified, on the basis of shallowing upward patterns in the Tabas block micro/pertofacies.

  • Unitarian Members of Parliament in the Nineteenth Century
View metadata, citation and similar papers at core.ac.uk brought to you by CORE provided by Stirling Online Research Repository Unitarian Members of Parliament in the Nineteenth Century A Catalogue D. W. Bebbington Professor of History, University of Stirling The catalogue that follows contains biographical data on the Unitarians who sat in the House of Commons during the nineteenth century. The main list, which includes ninety-seven MPs, is the body of evidence on which the paper on „Unitarian Members of Parliament in the Nineteenth Century‟ is based. The paper discusses the difficulty of identifying who should be treated as a Unitarian, the criterion chosen being that the individual appears to have been a practising adherent of the denomination at the time of his service in parliament. A supplementary list of supposed Unitarian MPs, which follows the main list, includes those who have sometimes been identified as Unitarians but who by this criterion were not and some who may have been affiliated to the denomination but who were probably not. The borderline is less sharp than might be wished, and, when further research has been done, a few in each list may need to be transferred to the other. Each entry contains information in roughly the same order. After the name appear the dates of birth and death and the period as an MP. Then a paragraph contains general biographical details drawn from the sources indicated at the end of the entry. A further paragraph discusses religious affiliation and activities. Unattributed quotations with dates are from Dod’s Parliamentary Companion, as presented in Who’s Who of British Members of Parliament.

Fiction Based on "Well-Authenticated Facts" Documenting the Birth of the American Novel by Warren F. Broderick Imagination is the queen of darkness: the night the season of her despotism. Daylight, by presenting a thousand objects to the eye, the hearing, and the touch, restores the empire of the senses, and, from being the sport of fancy, we become the slave of realities. - James Kirk Paulding, Westward Hoi, 1832 he novel arrived late on the American literary scene. Poetry, drama, diaries, sermons and other forms of liter ature long antedated fiction. During America's formative T years, fiction was distrusted by Puritans and pragmatists alike; both found fault with its necessary detachment from reality. Before the novel could truly be accepted as a serious literary form in America, its writers needed to prove that their works were "moral tales," and "founded on fact." In spite of these preconditions, which may have delayed the advent of American fiction, the literary form The Hudson Valley Regional Review, September 1987, Volume 4, Number 2 I flourished in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Gothic fiction, powerfully written and very appealing to readers, has remained ascendant since Charles Brockden Brown developed it into a serious litet:ary genre in the 1790s. Brown's Wieland (1798) and Edgar Huntly, (1799) were America's first m<tior novels and are classics of the "American Gothic."
