Early in the week Captiva's Erosion Prevention District was a plan ordered by the state to prepare a plan to alleviate erosion on Sanibel allegedly caused by a jetty Captiva installed almost two years ago. Then beleaguered Captiva officials meet informally with a trio of county commissioners to present their argu- ments as to why their beach renourishment project is not to blame for Sanibel's recent accelerated erosion. All this followed release of a report by consultants for Sanibel late last week which pointed the finger at the jetty as one cause of the erosion. As a result of these developments Lee County too will start monitoring the beach erosion, and the County e® Commissioners have scheduled a hearing between Captiva and Sanibfel officials at the county courthouse to listen to both sides of the arguments in which is becom- ing a gathering storm. The Department Of Natural Resources ordered a miti- gation report to be completed for its review within 90 days Ken Humiston, of Coastal Engineering Consultants, told Sanibel's City Council members Tuesday.
